So, I'm prowling the auction site last week and I see a fellow selling a like new BK-7 with Micarta scales and sporting a Skystorm sheath. Nothing really too fantabulous except for the fact that he only wants a BIN of $100 for it..........

Yeah, I hit the button quickly, and began the anticipatory wait for my 7 to arrive. I had a 7 a while back but sold it to a friend and never replaced it. My 5 and 9 need company, and the Becker collection needs fleshing out.

Well, lo and behold, here comes the mail girl today and she hands me an empty priority mail shipping envelope with the end all ganked up, AND prominently stamped all freakin over the front of it 'RECEIVED IN DAMAGED CONDITION' and 'NO CONTENTS'......... I couldn't even scream "GAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH" at the sky, I was so dejected.

The seller has 100% feedback, he insured the package, I'm really out nothing, BUT STILL!!!

My snazzy new 7 is laying on the floor of a truck somewhere,or in a lost and found box at some sorting facility in PoDunk BFE and I am very sad that I cant fondle the goodness.

My discomfiture was tempered by getting a 2nd generation BK-2, but only slightly.

Good thing it was insured, and it's nice to know you received some type of confirmation that the snail mail f'd it up.

I guess that a sorting machine or some such chewed the end out of the envelope, but at least they did stamp the bejeebers out of it. They cant claim that I am trying to get over on them with the evidence in hand.

Man, I really wanted that skystorm sheath too.................:(
Such is life eh?

I know exactly the sorting machine that does it too. I had a buddy send me a blu-ray to my house and a bunch of pez dispensers/pez candy for my daughters. When it arrived, it looked like it barely survived a trip through a cross blade shredder. Every single item was destroyed, the "good" news was the post office accepted the fact they destroyed it, but because it was not insured they told me I was SOL. The worst part was the pez dust coating everything...

That SUCKS. Hope you make out better than we did. My mom sent 2 tablets for the kids. They didn't work right so we insured & registered them & sent them back. Post office said they were delivered & someone must have stole them. My mom is retired & was home all day & no one delivered nothing. Signature was NOT hers & not even close. They denied our claim & said it was signed for & delivered. We are appealing it but that is out last recourse. If denied, she is out $500 + shipping. No wonder the USPS is going out of business.

Envelopes are never a good idea for knives. Boxes, and crap loads of tape all over the friking place! Every corner and seam taped like the Apocalypse was coming!

that knife was on my watch list, waiting for me to get home and buy it! sold by the time I got home and logged in .......

What I started doing is wrap the knife in paper (newspaper usually) and tape that to the top of the inside of the box, then stuff it with more newspaper, then tape it shut and wrap the whole thing in tape... then put the label on, and tape that down too.

RogueBowie... How did the package arrive? Pretty well unscathed?

Ahhhh, that was a sweet deal on that 7 right? The tip top set up for a darn good price.

Sorry I beat you to the punch my friend, but as it turns out, it was all for naught...........:(

My only nit to pick with the seller was his choice of shipping enclosure.
He did insure it, and he has already been back in contact with me offering a full refund for the purchase, so I can't beef with him over it. He acted in good faith all the way around.

I am still feeling somewhat downcast over the affair, I thought that I had the sweet 7 setup nailed tight.

Imagine the damage a BK-7 is going to do bouncing around the insides of a mail sorting machine... I'm thinking a civil servant probably saved the day by quickly pocketing such a hazardous piece of steel (in it's custom sheath) thereby protecting the inner workings of said machine (if their supervisors only knew what they'd risked to protect the machine they'd surely get an award for meritorious service). What a bummer!

shout all to all the folx that drop items into a paper envelope and ship it. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

i think the only complaint i've ever had about my shipping/packing method is how long it took to get their pristine item out of the box and LAYERS of stuff.

i have, on occasion, gone completely "postal" in my wrapping for some items to the point the package is integral to them item "it cannot fall out" :D

You can try to file "lost item" form. They send all lost/unidentifiable packages to Georgia where they process them. Its basically a form that you can describe everything that the package was supposed to contain, and you can even attach pics of the items. I cant remember the specific number or term for the form, but if you talk to somebody that knows what they are doing at USPS, they can help you out.

Its my belief that some USPS, UPS, FEDEX, etc etc, employees never have to buy anything.......

feel something good in the package? Take dat sh*t yo!

This reminds me of the scene in the movie Big Daddy where Adam Sandler and the kid purposely dented the canned goods on the floor in the grocery store so they could get them free/discounted.

That sucks!

I have that sheath saved, There aren't many of those before I changed some things with them. If it ever comes back in for the snap upgrade from the shiny ones to blacks we can see where it 'fell out' at.

Who ships a BK-7 in an envelope anyway?

Living in NYC, I'd be deathly afraid if I received a knife in an envelope... my first reaction would be "uhhh, that's not mine, I have no idea who sent that."
