A friend of mine unknowingly left her Cabela's/Bass Pro Exclusive Bugout on her truck bumper and found it down the road while on a run. It was pretty busted up. She contacted Benchmade but of course it is not a warranty issue, so they said she could send it in to the repair shop and pay for the work. I offered to rebuild it for her and bling it a little bit instead. She was surprised this was even a possibility! Fortunately she has the most moddable pocketknife in existence. Haha. I didn't go too wild since she is not a knife nut and I was doing the build on my own dime, but I think it looks pretty cool and is certainly even better than it was stock.

I thought you all would appreciate before and after pics. Basically the only original parts are the blade, lockbar/liners, and springs. I put on some Flytanium pitch black G10 scales, molten orange G10 backspacer, new blacked out clip, all new black hardware, orange decorative lanyard, plus sharpening and KPL lube and tune so it smells good and flicks nicely. It makes me want to buy a user Bugout and build it up for myself! I had a good time with this. Enjoy!

Click for the imgur galleries; they don't seem to display properly or else the pics are posted lower if you want to scroll.

The galleries don't seem to display correctly, so I added the pics in there too. Thanks!

So, how did she take the upgrade?

I was able to give it to her yesterday and she loved it! She was amazed that it could be rebuilt like that and loved the colors and the lanyard and even liked that I kept the lockbar with a few scuffs in it as sort of an homage to the mayhem it went through. Haha. She kept turning it over and over and studying it and had to sniff the pivot when I told her it was scented, lol. It was really cool to be able to put something together that the person really enjoyed.

Did she give you a proper thank you? ;)

She expressed it in words if that is what you're asking... 😜 The knife was originally an anniversary gift - her hubby is one of my best friends. He thought it turned out great too.

Looks good! I bought a used Bugout just to mod it.

Thank you! I am definitely tempted to do this very thing. It was a fun project and you get a sweet little knife not exactly like any other one out there.

Good Sir. I know not what you insinuate that I may have been insinuating with my query. I merely inquired as to the sincerity of the tone and gracious nature of the gratitude that was extended for such generosity. :)
