Here on the forums from someone I see on the exchange quite a bit.Where'd you buy it ?
He would know best I'm sure! Not sure if this is correct or not but I was told the black lock release was an update because Spyderco was having issues with the clear ones breaking. Maybe Sal can clarify?

Thanks, is the laser etching rather shallow with dark grayish-black coloring?Yes he would!
As far as the blade markings, all of my Golden, CO knives (including 3 Manix 2's) are laser etched. However, the etching on some are smoother than others. I have a couple knives that I can barely feel the markings.
Also, I'm no authority on counterfeit knives but I don't think there's a fake Manix 2 with a CBBL lock. I'm pretty sure there are fake Manix's out there but I think they have a different locking mechanism.
If possible, post a pic of your knife. If necessary I'll add a pic of my trans blue M2 for comparison.

Hmm, mine seems a bit darker than that. Like you said though, the etching varies. Here's a pic of my trans blue M2. Not the best pic but this is all I have at the moment. I just looked at the markings on all my CO spydies and the etching varies quite a bit. The etching on the M2 pictured is actually fairly deep and darker in color than most of the others but not what I'd call grayish-black. The Spyder logo is brown and the lettering is light brown? My black M2 LW is much lighter (gold?) as are most of my others.
