Manix 2 black/brown burled G 10

Thanks, KC was pre order, so I'm guessing they were spoken for. GP Knives won't post to Australia. I managed to snare one at National Knives (never dealt with them before). Got an email 4 hours later to say it's already shipped with the shipping number. Very impressed so far.
I didn't realize these would be such a hot ticket item. How many in this sprint run, does anybody know?

The initial shipment a dealer receives is probably not the total amount they'll get.
I wouldn't expect this to sell out super fast.

I'm surprised there's not more love for this. The vote on the spyderco forum is mostly a no for this one. I personally love it and the steel too.

It's the full liners. They add an insignificant amount of extra sturdiness and an excessive amount of weight. The burled handle is also a hit or miss for some. As for myself, I would have overlooked the handle if it had skeletonized liners, simply because it was a good steel combo, but with the liners I couldn't see it.

Have you ever actually held a Manix 2 with full liners and one with skeletonized liners at the same time? I just did and honestly, there's not as much of a difference as you might think. My Manix 2 S30V (full liners) weighs 4.860 oz and my 52100 (skeletonized) weighs 4.305 oz. So there's an actual difference of .555 oz. That might seem like a lot but in hand it doesn't actually feel like much. I can feel the difference but barely. I prefer the skeletonized liners too but the difference is definitely not something that would keep from buying a knife that I liked.

Yes, I have. It is enough weight to annoy me, although I know everyone has a different outlook on knife weights. I'm just very picky about knife weight. I generally won't even look at a knife that is above 5 oz and the closer a knife gets to that cutoff weight, the more I tend to consider it a 'do not buy'. Especially when I can could easily just get the s110v version 'with' skeletonized liners.

It's weird that the liners aren't skeletonized. It makes the knife less premium...and heavier.

I actually like the feel and weight of my Manix2 with full liners. Skeletonuzed liners are fine. But I prefer full liners. Not a terribly huge difference imo anyway.

I have old 154cm manix 2 with hollow grind and full liner, i got s110v and m4 g10 with skeletonized liner, i also got the lightweight plastic handle version. I definitely like the skeletonized liner version the best.
It’s all about balance. The ffg version with full liner is too butt heavy while the plastic lightweight version is too blade heavy. Given the price, we know that spyderco can do better by skeletonizing the liner like all their non-standard version. There are also other versions with equal good steel and skeletonized liner for the same price. So unless you really love the burl g10, there’s really no reason to buy this.

I frequently carry a Rat 1 in D2 steel as my beater. It weighs 5.2 ounces. I really don't get the weight thing. If you're not on a long hike with a pack, an let's face it most aren't, what's a couple of ounces? Yeah, If I wanted to go on a seriously challenging bush walk and really had to count the weight of everything in my pack, I'd look at a sub 2 oz knife like a bugout or similar anyway. I'm not saying anyone else is wrong. It's just my opinion FWIW.
For me the appeal of the knife is the steel, the unique burl handle and the lock (I don't have a Manix 2 in my collection). To be honest I'll probably not use it. Having said that all the knives in my collection must be practical users to if I chose to put em to use.
This seems, for me at least, to tick those boxes.

It's not so much the absolute weight as it is the relative weight. If given a choice, most people would prefer lighter with a more neutral balance.
You get acclimated to a lighter knife and then one that's slightly heavier is noticeable.
Also if you're wearing light weight shorts/pants then a heavier knife will flop around more.
All that said, it's the wider profile that makes the Manix 2 less pocket friendly than its weight.

I’ve wondered if the burl needs the backing of full liners to support it.
