I got the lw manix 2 yesterday and I have to say it is a great knife, but holy crap, this spring for the lock is INSANELY tough. The skin on my thumb and index finger is peeling off trying to open and close this thing. I am considering sending it back because the lock is so god dam hard. I really don't know what to do with it. I have been trying to open and close it all day but it feels like it hasn't done much. It feels like I am trying to pry open the jaws of Satan. Please help. :(

Edit: After 2 days of opening and closing this knife is buttery smooth and easy to open and close by just disengaging the lock itself. If you find yourself in the situation i did, just keep on going at it.

I had a manix 2 xl that was like that. I worked the the lock like 1000 times and it never got easier. Some of the newer manixes have way to much spring tension. I ended up giving my manix to an employee who needed a knife. After that I only buy Spydercos at the local knife shop so I can check the lock. Luckily GP is close by.

Oh man, I really hope that isn't the case with mines, I don't want to have to send this knife back.

Odd. I'm on my 2nd Manix 2 and the spring isn't too stiff at all. I can actuate the lock with just my thumb (no finger on the other side).

The spring on mine (Manix 2 LW S110V) was also pretty stiff at first. After some wearing in, it has gotten easier to work. I say just keep at it.

First positive post here, I am sitting here trying to break this mofo in with the skin on my fingers peeling off.

My wife has had her manix 2 LW since valentines day 2014

Although it had a stronger spring and "grab" than all of the other models I had used, it has become a little bit easier to unlock and is super smooth as well. Amazingly smooth with no blade play.
She had no issues unlocking it and she is a tiny thing. Tough but tiny.

Keep break in it in. Even if it doesn't give much, you will develop the muscles and it will become easier to operate. And don't ruin your fingers in the meantime! Lol.

I suppose that since you "know" that it's not likely to get much easier with time, and it's difficult for you, to just cut your losses and pick up something else with a different type of lock. One easy suggestion is a PM2; I really enjoy those things.
p.s. I had one of those LW's...I got rid of it quickly. I'm not comfortable with the backlock designs, and I seem to favor framelocks in most of my folders.

Try the g10 model. They always unlocked a bit easier. Although for 60$ new the wife's lw is phenomenal. The bd1 is great for her as it is used 75% of the time for kitchen utility and is super stain reresistant. But is also her "gardening" Knife.

+1 for the para 2. That is ny favorite spyderco. I owned a few manix, but the lock never grew on me.

Try this technique...With the butt of the handle nestled in your palm, use you thumb AND index finger to grip both sides of the lock then pull it. I've done it so much that its like second nature to me and I can open the knife just as quickly as an axis or compression lock.

absolutely. I just assumed that's how everybody operated this lock. If you're not using a thumb and finger, do that for sure!

+1 above! I would have never ever thought of trying to use one finger or thumb to unlock any cbbl lock.
