Manix 2 Caged ball bearing lock play?

Well, I am really starting to get irked. My Manix 2 XL is has some play involving the polymer cage, it will go up, down and side to side with play (with some side to side blade play which I fixed with a slight pivot tightening) and off centering that goes left more and more every day I was going to contact Spyderco's customer support, but I assumed that if this is something normal to happen with hardly any use, you would provide insight. I really am sorry for posting 2 threads like this.

Hi, please clarify a bit. Are you saying the blade has play around the pivot, or that when the blade is locked somehow the lock is not fully engaged and secure.
Thanks, this info will help us to comment more accurately.

The lockup is alright. The blade has slight sideways play. But the cage ball bearing lock moves from the left to the right or the left side of the knife slightly when touched and up and down if touched that way. It's almost like the polymer cage is loosening, and I haven't put any negative or positive pressure on the knife, all I've done is cut a little paper, opened the tape on some boxes, and opened a couple clamshell packages.

You should to send it to the dealer for an exchange or send it in to Spyderco to evaluate.

Thanks for the update. Well, you may have a problem there. I have had three Manix's now, 2 XL's and 1 LW. None have loose polymer cages. I just went and double checked. They are wiggle free whether opened or closed due to the constant spring pressure. I would be inclined to contact customer service at this point. The Manix series should get smoother over time as long as the pivot is adjusted correctly and the ball should seat a bit further up the ramp as it breaks in.

Thank you, you too, Mr. Allen. And thanks to all of you. Without any of you, I wouldn't know if this was actually a problem or not.

Sounds like a problem. You should definitely contact dealer or spyderco. I have two manix 2's and one XL. The cage is pretty firm on all of them.

I guess I'll have to send it in... I'm going to carry it for a day or so more and see if it corrects itself...

UPDATE: The play has seemed to go away? I wonder if it had a self adjusting period of some sort. Aaaand it comes back. And nasty spring noises have returned...
