Manix 2 FRN Blade Swap

Well I finally got my hands on the new Manix 2 Dark blue FRN handle s110v. This is a very sweet light knife!
However I like things with more weight to them.

My goal was to swap the S30V blade from my gen 2 Manix into the FRN and the S110V into the Gen 2 g10 version.

Heres the issue. There are two liners inbedded in the FRN handle. These have a pivot inside holding the blade. Removing all the removable screws does nothing because the liners are held in by the 2 top rivots.....

So option 1....Find a way to remove the rivots. Tap and then drill them out.

Option 2.....Remove part of the FRN handle where the pivot screw it (helps hold the handles together) and try to remove the pivot barrel to remove the blade.....

If that doesn't work then option 1 is the only option.

I'm still thinking of what to do. If I go through with it I'll post pics and steps if people are interested and or offer that as a new service

Thoughts?

I would try drilling out the rivets. If that is successful then you would have to find screws to fit in order to put the knife back together.

Not sure if you've already seen the thread but so far the only successful blade swap on this knife resulted in the FRN handles being useless... I too have been thinking of ways to swap the blade without destroying the handles. After seeing the pics of the internals, it definitely looks like a challenge. If you come up with anything please post. I love the S110V with the lightweight handles but I would eventually like to purchase a second one to use for a g-10 manix blade swap.

It's possible that there might be Manix 2 G10 or carbon fiber CPM S110V production/sprint model down the line?Let me look in to the crystal ball....We might see some more S110V production models in the future from Spyderco. It seems logical to me seeing that the Manix LW dark blue is a production model. Why ruin a perfectly good user with awesome steel just for a blade swap that voids the warranty?I would enjoy the knife as is and use it for a beater and test the steel over time.

It hasn't been determined yet if the rivets can be drilled out without damaging the handles, or if some form of replacement screws are readily available. The M2 S110V is not all that expensive if you can find one, and used G10 M2's are not expensive either. If you bought one of each, damaged the FRN while removing the blade, and put the S110V into the G10 you would still have spent less than if you tried to buy an M2 sprint and you would have top of the line steel. You might be able to sell the leftover 154 or S30V blade to make the frankenknife even cheaper. Now if you could actually use the FRN to make a complete knife then that would be even better.

Beautiful. That how I planned to do it in my head. Lol
Planning on doing this real soon. Also want to save the fun to put it back together with the s30v. Maybe make a FRN Mando how of it :O
