I've been informed by Spyderco and reviewers that the 2ND Generation of the Manix 2 G-10 is clearly an improvement. However, I do like the looks of the old blade. I believe that it is referred to as a "Sabre" blade. I'm curious as to the general consensus here regarding this and your thoughts? It looks like this is the knife that I will be receiving...

Thanks.

I actually prefer the original that you're getting. There are plenty of FFG Spydercos. I think the sabre hollow ground Manix2 looks better and it cuts better than many give it credit for. Nothing wrong with the FFG either. I sold mine though and kept the hollow grind.

Actually, I don't believe that they will be sending the original.

The switch from 154CM to S30V was done before the switch to FFG. My hollow ground version is S30V.

I've had the 154CM hollow ground version for a few years now, and just picked up the FFG S110V LW from the mailbox today. FFG is great, as it is also on my Paramilitary2, but I still like the hollow ground fella too. Either one will do you just fine, if it's the aesthetics that you're after and the steel choice isn't a concern then let your eyes be your guide. All of the steels on the Manix2 production models have been great.

I wish the 154CM version was a high hollow grind instead of a low one. I had just done a regrind on it to a FFG and couldn't be happier. I do have a much easier time sharpening 154CM over S30V if that affects anything.

I do prefer the FFG but at the same time as AF alluded to, there are plenty of Spyderco models that are FFG already so the Manix was more unique in this regard especially since it is touted as a hard use knife. Also the sprints always came in FFG anyway.

I very much appreciate the advice of everyone here on the forum. This is an invaluable resource for a person that is new to carrying a knife. Thanks again. Very kind of you all...

ffg full flat ground. its the actual blade geometry. Look at the two links and you will see the FFG looks kinda like a scandi grind as there is a severe edge on the blade.
