I think my next Spyderco purchase is going to be a Manix 2. I saw that the newer versions are going to have a S30V blade instead of 154CM. I figured I would hold out until the S30V Manix's were available, but I'm wondering when that will be?

Don't think they are out yet. But if you want one in S30V you could get the ManixXL.

There have been some sprints... The Moonglow Manix has S30V as well as the Stag Arms Manix, and there was a BD30P (S30V equiv) one too.

Nothing wrong with 154CM in my opinion. Offers a great balance between edge holding, corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening for the average user out there.

I have a Moonglow Manix2 in s30v and also a sprint in CTS-BD30P which is pretty close to s30v.

No, wish it was. It looks like they will have the same hollow grind, they will just be using the S30V instead of the 154CM. Price is supposed to stay the same, which is why I want to hold out until they are available.

Is this new Manix 2 S30v supposed to be FFG?

when talking to syderco's support they said they would be making the change "sometime" this year.

the s30v are technically out. the knife store i go to has gotten one in. basically what is happening is that they are making the same knife just replacing the steel. they are shipped out depending on what they have in stock. so the store may get a 154cm version or s30v. also no price increase which is awesome..

I placed an order last week with a large online store that represents an forest in South America. I will have to see what I get, but it does not matter much for me as I feel 154CM is a good balanced steel.

The Atlantic forest?? 0_o :p

I've been waiting for the S30V Manix as well, wanting to try it out, but figure I'll wait until these are available.

Good to hear, sounds like maybe I won't have to wait much longer. I figure they would want to sell most of the remaining 154cm knives before they release too many of the new ones.

Let me know which one you get. I'm familiar with this store, and have the Manix in my wishlist;)

I'd prefer one in CPM154, to be honest.

I would love one in CPM154....but it is not CPM154 only 154CM. Two different processes in making the two.

Will do. Will still have to wait a while as it still has to go through customs etc.

Somewhere between Wednesday 25 April 2012 to Friday 04 May 2012 hopefully. Leaning more towards the 4th.

Update:

Date code BL: February 2012 the one I received from that jungle place in South America is still 154CM. It is the all black version. Maybe the newer ones with plain blade will see the first shift over.

I am happy with 154CM in my uses over the past years. A decent steel with a balance between edge stability and toughness when heat treated correctly. Anyone interested should not be discourage to buy the knife. It is a fine knife that will last you a life time. Even if it was made out of 1095 or 440C.
