I just bought this knife in translucent blue. After reading and watching reviews people seem to hate it. Is Bd1 really as bad as people say? Are the handles as weak as people say? Would I be better of returning it and buying something different? I got it on clearance for 70.00 out the door.

Thanks.

I think you should forget what other people have to say and determine for yourself if BD1 and the handle material is where it's at...I will tell you that you didn't buy a crappy knife. :D

I just bought the same knife. So far, it seems great. No problems at all with the BD1 steel. Came sharp as expected and easy to touch up and keep sharp. Holds the edge well I might add. I love mine.

Friend of mine has one, I've sharpened it few times for him. It's a good all round lightweight EDC folder, the BD1 is very corrosion resistant, easy enough to sharpen with edge retention that seems reasonable if your not used higher grade blade steels. And the handle is not weak at all. Keep it, use it, enjoy it.

I bought the LW Manix BD1 a couple months ago & I don't think you'll be disappointed in it.

Comparing it to my PM2 with S30V, the edge retention isn't quite as good, but a couple minutes work with the Sharpmaker fine rods brings the edge back. It'll take up a little more pocket space than the PM2 due to the blade shape, but it is much lighter. I prefer the G10 scales & open back design on the PM2, but I don't think you'll damage the LW scales with normal use/abuse & they give a firm grip.

I have one too, and have been quite pleased with it. The BD1 may not have the edge retention of S30V, but it is easy to refresh with a quick touch on the steel and an occasional pass on the sharpmaker. I have found the scales to be plenty strong for all my EDC uses, and it has the most cutting power vs. weight of any knife I have. It's definitely not a mistake to pick one up, and at $70 out the door, you should be doing a little happy dance to shake off the buyer's remorse.

I got worried when people on youtube were compairing bd1 to 8cr13mov. Any truth to this? I also own a delica 4 with vg10. How does the bd1 compare to the delica vg10. Thanks you for the help and all the great info.

It will be similar to vg10 with vg10 possibly outperforming it by a hair. It's a solid performing steel with good corrosion resistance and as others have said, it sharpens up really easily. The handle is plenty strong. Enjoy your knife!

From my experience so far VG-10 is far superior to BD1. Which is why it was hard for me to justify paying more for it then VG-10 (Ex. Endura vs Manix LW). But I had to experience it for myself. Again that has just been my experience SO FAR.

Seems to be a bunch that arent bd1 fans. Ive found it to be like a much better corrosion resistant well heat treated aus8 or slightly better....myself. which i guess falls in line with well done 8cr13mov or a hair below vg10.

You are the victim of steel snobbery...Use it and enjoy it, and don't worry about the minuscule differences in all these steel-of-the-weeks...

I've had one for a long while. Carry it often and push it hard. One of my favorites.

I had one one in s110v, hated it and traded down for the bd1.

Bd1 is solid it's pretty much like 440c, you can put a crazy edge in it and it holds it up well.

I spoke with the guy who I traded with and his stones weren't good enough to sharpen s110v either and he got rid of it.

I still have my bd1 version and along with my native lightweight are my two current favorite Spydercos. The only difference is the manix lw just flys open.

yeah, it surely compares well with 8cr, but it is gonna leave it far behind in terms of corosion resistance. 8cr is not all that bad, there are thousands of fan boys raving about how awesome 420HC is(HAHA), while 8cr is far Superior in terms of edge retention.

I like the ease of maintenance and resharpenability of BD1. About the only thing I've got as sharp is HAP40. I'm still eyeballing the all black Manix 2 Lightweight :D

It's a great knife! Softer steel that I have noticed rolls pretty easy like if you use it on a hard cutting board. No big deal though! Sharpens right back up in a jiffy.

I have a Manix S110v Lightweight and absolutely love the FRCP handle (I dont have trouble sharpening the blade but then again i have access to an industrial wet wheel :D ) but the FRCP is very very light and also feel comfortable in the hand. As for the steel if it is anything like BDZ1 (which I LOOVE) and i think that it is, it should take a razor sharp edge that'll pop hairs.
