I was browsing through a Blade magazine at a store and saw a photo of the upcoming Manix 2 Lightweight. It had a blue polymer handle and I think it had a flat-ground blade. If I remember right, the handle texturing was similar to that on the E4/D4. Supposed to come out later this year or in 2011.
If this is old news, I apologize.

I'm sticking with my Mini-Manix. I didn't find that the Manix 2 measured up to the Mini in a side by side comparison. :)

I've never liked the Manix 2 due to the hollow grind and the bulk. If Spyderco came out with a lighter, slimmer Manix 2 in FFG, I think I'd have to try it out. We'll just have to see how it turns out.

Handwrecker-already done, a few sprints came out.

You can try to hunt them down, or wait for the next run-the EDCForums knife. I think it will be lighter-it is flatground S30V if i recall.

If it has partial or skeletonized liners and a FFG blade, I'll probably want one.

I know, but those are expensive and not all that much lighter. The linerless FRN and the FFG should make a very noticeable difference.

they cant make liner-less FRN , FRN way to soft for this .
plus sprint runs have skeletonized liners and very light .

Well, the clear prototype has no liners, but it does have an internal rib structure, like the veins of a leaf, which adds rigidity. Also, FWIW, the handle for the production version of the Manix 2 Lightweight is not going to be FRN, it's going to be FRCP - fiberglass reinforced co-polymer. That was announced by Kristi a couple weeks back. FRCP may, or may not, be more rigid than FRN.

I don't know, I kinda like it. It would certainly be interesting to know about the tear and wear of the prototype and how it aged.

Salt series folders have FRN handles w/o liners, just like the previous generation Delica/Endura,

Sprint runs are barely 3/4oz. lighter than regular Manix 2 (4.25oz. vs 5oz.). Not enough of a difference to bump my Military out of my pocket. I'm excited to see how much bulk is shed on this lightweight iteration.

everyone wants a light weight manix 2, then when it doesnt hold up to abuse they bash it. personally I would want it beefed up a little. Its designed as a hard use knife, if its to heavy dont buy it, I will though. I love these heavy folders, i hardly notice it in my pocket anyway. Build it nice and tough sal. I'll buy another, its my favorite pocket knife so far.

I can tolerate linerless, if there's a big ol' fat backspacer to support the frame, but this one here is not for me.

I ate my words, and found a foliage green Manix 2. I still like the ease of lock release and blade length of the Military, and I wouldn't say it's been kicked out of the pocket. But I stand corrected, the glass smooth opening, deep choil, and CTS-XHP have completely changed my mind. The Manix 2 is an excellent knife, and I can't believe how much I'm enjoying using this steel.

Any new info on when the light weight version will be available? Is it still 154cm? I'd be interested to swap a Sage or Caly clip so everything could ride lower.
