Manix 2 lock problems

Hey guys the ball bearing lock on my manix has always been pretty smooth but very tight. Now just recently when opened at normal speed the lock sticks BAD. It takes a ridiculous amount of pressure to disengage the lock. I have tried everything from blasting it with several types of gun cleaner, graphite, and compressed air. Nothing has seemed to help. It is literally unsafe to use it takes so much effort to close.
Have any of you had this problem and if so how did you fix it. Should I send it in? I'm confident in taking it apart but don't want to void the warranty incase taking it apart and cleaning it don't fix it.
Thank for reading and for any help!

I had problems with mine being sticky and it would catch. I tried some gun oil and it fixed my issue. Don't think mine was as bad as what you have. But just a suggestion. If it were me, I'd send it into Spyderco and see what they can do.

Definitely send it in.......but call them first. Explain what's going on. Maybe they heard it before and can tell you how to fix it.
Knife will probably be back to you in about 2 weeks.
Good luck and give us the solution when it's all smooth again.

I emailed them and told them about it. But I think you are correct in saying I should call them first.

I have 3 Manixes (Mani?)--an XL, a 2, and an LW. I had quite a bit of trouble with my XL when I first got it. The coil spring that forces the ball forward was wicked stiff and took a couple weeks of operation to lose some of its initial tension. Along the way, the knife had a sticking problem similar to yours. The spring was so tense and possibly slightly overlong that it was somewhat bowed. The polymer cage that holds the locking ball has a shaft that extends partway down the center of the spring to hold everything in line. The back end of that shaft terminated in a flat end with a squared-off edge that would catch one of the coils of the spring when the lock was retracted and cause it to stick. I just kept working the lock and lubricating the spring until it finally wore in. The lock now retracts easily and doesn't stick.

If yours sticks so badly that you can't close the knife without endangering your digits, then you should probably call ahead and make arrangements to send the knife in. Somewhere along my path to break-in I did contact Spyderco CS. They were patient and sympathetic and said if the knife didn't break in or I was dissatisfied to send it along and they would remedy the problem. I stuck with it and the knife functions excellently now.

when i lubed my manix2 the action was ruined. it wouldnt drop shut anymore. cleaned it out with some zippo lighter fluid and all works well now.

tho on topic, i do have to apply alot of pressure to the lock myself... lubing this didnt help. i could try and carry this more often, but its so big in the pocket i tend to not carry it, even tho i really like it. ill check to see if the spring is completely seated correctly as suggested above.

Well guys I have cleaned, blown out and oiled this thing 7 ways from Sunday. Looks like this bug is going back to Colorado for a tuneup. Something has to be out of spec with the lock that I can't see without taking it apart. I'll update you guys on the customer service. It's funny though, I have had this thing for 3 years now carrying off and on, and just got a new Wilson combat elc that I love but all I want is for my spydie to be fixed so u can use it now. Thank you all for your suggestion though!

Leaving the knife open but not locked helps with a tight spring
Already tried that :/ there must be a burr or something in there causing it to stick so bad. I'm handicapped but even my friends and father find it unreasonably difficult to unlock.
