Manix 2 lock stick? Can anyone help?

For the record, I’ve owned many versions of the Manix 2 and have never encountered this problem. I have a brand new Manix 2 in 15v and there’s a *click* when disengaging the lock. All of my other Manix 2’s are a smooth and fluid motion. I’ve disassembled and reassembled and that did nothing good or bad for the issue. Additionally, I didn’t see anything problematic internally. Normally I find the Manix 2 locking action very pleasant to cycle but this clicking is really ruining the experience.

One other observation I made is that the ball cage locks up further away than a typical Manix so perhaps this changes the way the bearing interacts with the tang?

Has anyone encountered this who can offer any advice? My only idea at this point is to cycle it many times and see if that happens to solve it. It’s extremely rough on the fingers though as it takes extra pressure to overcome the click.

If you have several id swap the parts between knives to identify the issue. Then decide whether you want to fix it or maybe contact spyderco or just leave the knife that clicks open in a blade/handle you never use

I read the thread and it sounds like yours was a click when opening the blade. Mine is a click when disengaging the lock to close the blade. It almost feels like the cage is getting caught on something and then with enough force it clicks as it breaks free.
Oh, so like lock stick then? I’ve never had lock stick on a ball bearing lock. Try applying some Tuf Glide to the rounded tang of the blade and to where the BB locks up on the tang. Tuf Glide has smoothed out many actions for me.

With the knife open, try to loosen the 4 backspacer screws a bit, put the lock under closing pressure and retighten the screws under pressure, and don’t tighten the screws too hard. Don’t cut yourself doing this … I usually put the knife with its back on a cutting board when doing this.

Screw construction is fairly new on the latest iterations of the Manix. The old ones were riveted together.

Didn’t work for me unfortunately. I’m going to disassemble again and see if I can find anything. Additionally, I’ll add some light lubrication to the bearing track

This is my first experience with the CBBL. Brand new Magnacut Salt Manix 2. I thought it was pretty stiff out of box but I could manage to unlock on just one side with my thumb. The pads of my fingers were sore after the first day. The spring seems really tight. I considered shortening it, but rather bought an after market spring that claims to have medium tension. Haven't installed it yet, not sure I will, as I'm getting use to the tension.

I did a dye job on the scales. Upon putting the knife back together, the lock stick was horrible. I lubed, I used pencil, and sharpie. The lock stick improved but was still difficult and I couldn't get it with just my thumb on the show side. And there was that click when I did get the lock unstuck. I loosened the screws and redid them up not as tight. I especially paid attention to the screw that runs through the blade stop bar connecting the washer surface things, making sure it was not too tight. After all that, the lock stick is much better, almost like it was before I disassembled. I can get it with my thumb on one side, but just. No click though!

I might try to mess with it some more, I might try installing the medium spring, and I might try an aluminium or Ti cage. But I might not. I'll likely just give it some time to break in more. It's a great LW platform with a great steel. Worth a little fiddling IMO.
