Alright got my Manix 2 in green today in the mail and the first thing I noticed was this lock is a monster lol. My hand hurts attempting to open and close this thing. I dont have girly little hands eather, I used to play deffensive line in HS and throw shotput and lift weights at college yet this thing is so stiff. Will it loosen up with time and be more comfortable open and closing cuz i realy like the knife.

WOW, i dont know what to tell you.

My manix is just solid. I am 5'5" and a doctor, so my hands are dainty, lol. But to me it does just feel solid, not that it hurst or to difficult to use.

My suggestion is use it for a day or two over the weekend, come monday if its not getting better send it to Golden CO. they will take great care of you. I only hear great things about their customer service. Spyderco has great QC, but even great companies have a rare issue, i guess.

I have had several customers say something similar, I told them to just use it and work it and it should loosen up a bit. Only on one occasion did a customer have to send it in and have it looked at. I had emailed and called several times to see how it turned out and never heard back from him. Hopefully it just needs to be used a bit and then all will be fine.

I guess problem lies in the ''rougher'' surface from machining process that couses bigger friction. Mine was the same at the begining, but than I used it and now locks up tight without a smallest problem of dissengaging the lock. It might also help you if you apply some lubricant or oil in the area where the metal ball engages to lower the friction;) I reallly like this knife. Great user with great steel!

Ya i love the knife shape and design, just been sitting here watching tv opening and closing it lol my fingers are getting kinda raw on my fingertips so going to take a break but it does seem to be loosing up a little imma try putting a little lubricant like you said.

when i got my cf s90v version it felt ruff and after playin with it a bit it rub my fingers raw as well. I swore i was goin to keep it in my bug out bag. But a year later it is my main edc. It did break in and/or my fingers got used to it, I love it. I also noticed the lock sits better now than when i first got it.

I think all Manix 2 are stiff out of the box. Just got the Manix 2 pink and it is stiff. I wish you could release the lock with just your thumb.

It will loosen up and you will also learn your way around the knife. I suppose it's possible you got a rare lemon, but for me the caged ball lock took some getting used to.

Spend some time working the lock back & forth with the blade open. They require a break in period but are plenty smooth once you get past that point. I just worked it back & forth while watching TV or reading for a few days. Put the bottom of your shirt or something over your finger & thumb to keep from rubbing them raw if you have to. Some of the new Cold Steel tri-ad locks have this same issue. There are sometimes glitches to work out with these new locks as the makers dial in & perfect them.

Are you using one finger or two fingers? I always use two and it never gives me a problem.

using my thumb and pointer finger thumb so two, tips of my fingers have officialy been worn to raw to keep doing it anymore today put bandaids on them and tried agin. Have put lubricant on it and kept attempting to open/close the lock all day scince I have gotten it while doing homework lol. Its gotten a little bit better but at this point fingers hurt to bad to know if its beter or not.

I can like half close it with one thumb but 2 fingers works much much better and yeah it does take awhile to break in but most knives do. Just watch tv and flick them open and closed

It does get better over time. I can occasionally unlock mine with just my thumb now. Though I have never had my fingers rubbed raw by the lock.

I just picked up a CTS-XHP Manix 2 myself (after swearing I never would, but that's completely off-topic...curse you Spyderco for using a steel I had to get my hands on!), and I definitely agree the lock takes some getting used to. If you look around, pretty much every Manix 2 review mentions the lock being stiffer out of the box than on other models.

Every once in awhile I have a little difficulty unlocking it myself, but it's usually my fault for not getting my fingers on the cage quite right. I'm getting the hang of it though, and I'm sure you will, too.
