Manix 2 LW issues

Just got my Manix 2 LW and overall I like the knife, but I noticed some small issues with the knife. The spine of the blade is not at a 90* angle with the blade, it is slanted like this ( \ ) as you can see in this picture. The ball bearing lock cage also has some play when the blade is open and closed. Are these real issues or nothing to worry about?

The cage on all 3 of my Manix 2s (2-LW & 1-G10) have a tiny bit of side-to-side play when the blade is closed but no up and down play. No movement in any of them when the blade is open and the lock is engaged.

I don't think there is a problem with the lock, but the uneven grind on the spine looks bad. Is this common? My other 4 Spydercos look much better.

Hi OP, the picture isn't the best but it looks like two issues with the knife and my opinion only
1. Looks like the construction at the pivot is not flush for lack of a better word AND
2. Perhaps the grind is "off" on the spine of the blade, but I'm not an expert, if it were my knife I would send it to Spyderco Warranty (and they are very good, busy and good) and most likely get a new knife. :) Kinda a bummer but it happens.

The spine on mine are all square/straight like they should be. Someone else had a Manix with this same problem a while back. It shouldn't effect how the knife works but aesthetically it would bother me enough to return it to Spyderco.

Yeah, it bothers me as well. I sent an email to Spyderco about warranty replacement for the knife.

Your post made me take a hard look at mine again. Contrary to what I said earlier, my newest Manix (black LW) has a little angle to the spine. I guess it's not as big of deal to me as I thought since I never noticed it before. I won't bother trying to have Spyderco look at. The knife was purchased second hand from the Exchange and looks like new. I buy all my knives to carry and use as needed and since I never noticed the slight angle on the spine before I'm not gonna let it stop me from using it as intended.

I'm with Sharp Guy. My blacked out LW's spine is also off a bit. I chalk it up to the blade being ground/cut unevenly.

That being said, my Manix is one of the best performing knives I have. It feels great In the hand, locks up well and cuts like a demon. I'm beyond satisfied.

So do you guys think it would be worth it to try and get a replacement?

If it bothers you yes. I would keep it and use it because it wouldn't bother me but that doesn't mean its not off spec. If it bothers you should definitely send it in. If it does't, then keep it and use it...those issues will not affect the knife in normal use.

I have an Endura HAP40 with the same problem, but I am using it and I am quite happy with it. In a perfect world of course you would want a replacement.

The way I look at it is these should be returned. Only then will the manufacturer realize the the extent of the problem. Some folks don't mind and some will look elsewhere for their next purchase.

I'm not sure if I'm the one you're referring to Sharp, but I did post about the spine of my Manix LW a couple months ago. Mine is slanted the other direction, more steeply IMO...something I discovered purely by accident. The recovering OCD part of me was bothered for a time and considered sending the blade off to have the spine rounded etc...never really considered returning it though. But, as of today it really a non-issue for me. The LW Manix, especially in S110v is such an awesome knife for the money and fairly inexpensive so I can forgive it for a F&F 'miss' or two. I've just decided to keep it sharp and beat it within an inch of its life every chance I get. The more time that passes the more I say to myself: 'If you have enough time to sit and pick out every tiny fault of every knife you own, you're really missing the point of why you have knives in the first place. You're not a collector!' :D

kershawguy13- my CBBL cage does have a minute amount of play when closed and even less when opened. Complete non-issues to me...I wouldn't even had thought about it if I didn't read your post. Perhaps yours has more than mine, though it's impossible to know without a side-by-side comparison.

Sal's always around, maybe he'll chime in with some insights/advice/recommendations... ;)

My black LW has a similar issue, the blade tang and the back spacer do not math up flush. If you look at the knife from top down when open you can see the gap where the metal does not match up evenly.

I just checked mine and it is slanted too. I have had it for a couple of years and never noticed it before and probably wouldn't have if I hadn't seen this. Since It hasn't bothered me before I don't think I will let it bother me now.
