Manix 2 LW On the Way...

I guess the poison from one Spyder bite is contagious...after buying a Delica FFG the other day I decided today to order a Manix 2 LW in blue from the jungle site (I had a $25 gift card from an event giveaway the other day) at a great price. The version I got is the blue FRCP with the BD1 blade. I watched a number of videos about it that all were overwhelmingly positive, I'm looking forward to this as a discreet office EDC type knife. I initially bought the Delica for this purpose but have soured on it since it's too short a blade and is annoying to open and close. I'm a big fan of the Axis lock, I hope the ball bearing lock will be similar is ease and speed of operation.

Anything I should know in advance? It should be here mid week.

The spring is way stiffer than on the axis lock so you may or may not need to pull back on the cage with your thumb and forefinger in order to close it. Mine thumb flicks open very smoothly and locks up extremely solidly.

Ahh, the Axis vs. Ball Bearing comparison. Two different companies and two distinct designs. As long as you do not expect your new SpyderCo Manix to open and close like a Benchmade Axis lock, you should be very happy with it. I find mine to be quite fluid and smooth. In a short time it will become instinctual to pull the lock back with thumb AND forefinger.

The spring on the Manix 2 is pretty strong but not hard for me to operate. If a person has weak hands it might be an issue. I've owned axis knives longer but I find the Manix 2 to be easy and foolproof to operate, one of my few knives that I would trust to use in the dark. And actually I use mine as a work knife and sometimes I'm on a ladder needing to use it. I can be holding the ladder or holding the thing that needs to be cut, I pull out the Manix 2, open it, cut whatever, then I can close it and put it back in my pocket without looking at it. I would be less comfortable doing this with any of my other knives except maybe the Para 2.

I have one with the black handle. Locks up tight with no play in any direction and it's easy to unlock. Opening action is very smooth too. What immediately surprised me when I first got mine was how light it is in relation to it's size. It weighs next to nothing compared to the standard G10 Manix. I will admit that the black FRCP handle looks a bit cheap compared to the FRN handles on other Spyderco lightweights (Delica, Endura, etc.), but it's comfortable and provides a good grip. I like it.
