I was just wondering with the lack of liners how the strength on this knive is. Does anyone have experience with hard use, or one failing. I already have this knive on the way because it belongs in my pocket. Just have concerns with the lock being directly attached to the flexible handles. Thanks for any comments.

I have one and I can tell you it is more than strong enough for reasonable everyday knife tasks. The pivot area is strengthened with small steel liners. Strength should not be a concern.

But if you want to use it as a pry bar and abuse it rather get the G10 with full steel liners, or a Tuff. Anything can be broken if you use enough force... Search for 'Manix splitting firewood' on the Spyderco forum for an example of a snapped blade. Handle was fine though...

They are quite sturdy, especially for being so light.

There was a thread floating around here that showed someone using it for splitting wood and they broke it (don't use a tool like this for that..), but the interesting thing was that it broke the blade off near the start of the handle. Definitely a user error thing, but you shouldn't have any issues with strength.

I think the FRCP scales feel cheap - more so than the FRN on Delica, Stretch, Endura - but I'm sure they're plenty strong. I will bring the Manix2 Lightweight BD1 with me on an upcoming backpacking trip. Apart from that specialized task, I prefer to carry other Spydies.

My gut feeling is that a significant torsional/twisting stress is the only event I might (unintentionally) subject my LW to where it'll ever break. That it "feels cheap" is a subjective opinion that I might agree with on a particularly cynical day. The bottom line is that this things weighs 2.9 OZ...the list of knives with similar blade and overall lengths that weigh the same is very short. And, if anyone is expecting a 2.9 OZ folding knife to handle tasks best left for a fixed blade, their expectations are too high, IMO. All that being said, the Manix LW is not high on my list of favorite blades (mostly because it's so stinkin' wide in my pocket!!), but I do have a great deal of respect for what it is and what its capable of.

I have 2 of these knives. I never thought of them as less durable than any other Manix 2 I own. If used as intended they should last you along time. I just cut stuff with them. I don't use them as a pry bar or an axe to cut down trees or slam the spine on concrete. I've been very happy with mine.

There are reports of them being used hard with no problems, there are reports of people trying to get the blades out for a swap and they had to work had at it. One knife has been posted that broke the blade just outside of the pivot. One knife has been posted that broke one of the scales right behind the pivot. So they stand up to a lot of hard use but they can break. If you want a hard use knife, get the Manix 2 in Cruwear. If you want a light EDC then get the LW version.

If you are referring to that blue Manix 2 with the broken scales, it has been pretty well agreed that this was a put up job. Even the supposed owner cannot be located or verified. The broken knife was posted by other people (supposedly). But, yes, any knife can break. Knives without liners are still strong, but may flex more during torking. I would not worry too much about this knife failing. Early on, they did have a few extremely hard use lock fails, but they have long since fixed that issue.

How is spyderco's warranty? If i break it or any damages occurs will they fix it? Their website doesnt make it seem like they stand by their products as much as others is this not true?

It's about 80v's difference ;)

But seriously, it is suppose to have better wear, I just got one of these and it arrived with a nice toothy sharp edge, impressive. While folks say it's light, that was the intent after all, and I will say it does feel less than sturdy but when I hold it, it feels just right in the hand and I don't think twice on using it and carrying it.
