Reasoning - Was looking to buy a Manix 2 LW, then use AWT scales; having a cheap but robust Manix 2.

Issue - The Manix 2 LW series not only has different hardware with the d-rivtet nuts (even if you grab one that isnt all rivets), it also has a different lock bar, lacking the secondary screw hole the NON-LW has. Ordered a second Manix 2 (non-LW) but then had deconstructed knife to mess with.

Solution - Ordered a set of Ti-hardware to circumvent the d-rivet nut hardware issue and had an extra barrel spacer from the AWT setup. Using Rockset to provide some peace of mind, I used the barrel spacer to bridge the gap the LW lockbar has. Is it as strong? Absolutely Not, but its usable. I will keep an eye on the screws; I dont expect them to back out though.. Just thought I would share. I wished I had a 3D printer to create a slightly thicker threaded spacer, it would make the LWs easily transferrable into the AWT linerless scales.

If I'm understanding correct, looks like you put the LW lockbar into the G10 body? Any photos of the inside of the G10 body using the LW lockbar? Would have loved to see how it looked with the LW's lockbar in there. I imagine it would be hard to take apart now since you used rocksett lol. Stuff is no joke. Thinking about it now and knowing how the LW lockbar looks as I've de-rivted my own LW Maxamet Manix, I can see what you mean about using a 3D printer to make a larger spacer. To fill in that "U" shaped gap in the lockbar right?

At any rate, I'm wondering why there isn't a Manix fan out there with a machine shop making the G10 version of the lockbars so that people could do a LW Manix to AWT/G10 body conversion more seamlessly. Seems like an opportunity there especially with the new LW Manixes being screwed construction and the fact that Spyderco offers some steels only in the LW variant (Maxamet in particular comes to mind). Some people such as myself dislike the FRCP scales for whatever reason. Maybe AWT will just start making a version of their scales compatible with the LW internals.

I'm a bit confused too, but I'm in love with those orange scales!

Exactly, you got it. I was considering emailing AWT and saying if you start pumping out the non-LW lockbars in titanium or something as an accessory so LW Manix users can covert to your scales, you will capture a substantial market segment. I would imagine if they threw some glamor dimples or something on it, it would pass the patent sniff test. I should have taken a pick before setting the barrel spacer in the U, but yea, I dont want to break the rocksett now.

Thanks. They are actually red.. just used the vivid filter on the image to better show the black barrel spacer in the BD1N manix. I wish they were deeper like a merlot. I love the color of the LUDTs in cranberry.

I've emailed them in the past to see if they had plans to make a version of their scales for the LW models since the LW models now come in screwed construction, but they replied that they don't have any plans at the moment to do it. I imagine if they get enough people bugging them about it they may do it eventually if there's enough demand.
