Manix 2 LW with S110V Opening and closing Question

I just received my Manix 2 LW with S110V in the mail. The knife is pretty stiff to open. The buttons used to close it are REALLY STIFF to use. I also noticed that the blade sits a bit offset when the knife is closed. If I loosen up the two star screws for the pivot will this allow me to get the blade to be more centered and HOPEFULLY open and close better. Right now you can't flip the knife open with your thumb and get it to go more than half way between closed and open. It takes two flips with your thumb to get it fully opened. If you have both buttons pressed you can hold the knife vertical and hold the blade horizontal and let go it will swing downward and stop about halfway to being closed, that is how much internal pressure there is on the blade. You can actually tap on the blade at this point and it won't close all the way. You have to PUSH IT SHUT. This is really disturbing as every video I watched on YouTube prior to purchasing the knife opened without a hitch. Though some people said it was a bit stiff it still opened and even closed without trouble. I've got a wonderful knife that is just a bear to open and close but it works fine once opened! Any thoughts on what I can do?

Thanks in advance.

The one I'm using has about the same action. I don't think the design lends itself to being flipped or flicked open. It can be easily wrist flicked closed, but watch out where your fingertips are positioned. It might help a little to polish the pivot washers with toothpaste.

I have the same model and have never been able to "flick" it open. The lock button was very stiff when new but has since become easier to use. I suggest keeping a light coat of oil on the tang edge where the ball bearing rides; this should help smooth the opening action. Also, rather than try to flick the knife open like most Spydies I've adopted an approach similar to Benchmade Axis locks: hold the knife in the palm of my hand, pull back on the lock button with thumb and index finger, and use wrist action to snap the blade open (or closed). Takes a little practice but works well for me and is fast too. Good luck.

My first Manix 2 would fall open once I pulled the button back. My 2nd was stiffer. Loosening the pivot screw just ever so slightly completely fixed the issue, however I chose to fully remove it so I could put threadlock on it and then reinstalled. Now my new one opens just as easily as my last one.

Sounds like it just needs some initial wearing-in. My initial experience with my S110V Manix LW was similar. After playing around with it for a while, it did get noticeably smoother. The spring tension for the lock is still pretty stiff, but it is much easier to work now than when it was new. I would suggest giving it a chance to wear in before tinkering with it too much.

I have had mine for almost a year now and it is very smooth now.
Pretty sure I tweaked the pivot screws initially and it will swing freely when lock is disengaged.
Also the lock has broke in a good bit, it is now much easier to pull back.

IMO this is one of the best valued knives in production now.

Buy a syringe with 5 weight Nano-Oil and apply a few tiny drops into the pivot area & the caged ball bearing lock.

Mine has always been very fast to flick open, but I did get one from the very first batch of production that hit stores, so maybe something changed.

If the blade is THAT off-center, I would just send it back to Spyderco and have them dial it in for you.

And when you disengage the lock, do you use one thumb, or thumb and a finger, gripping on both sides (that's how I do it :p)?

I have one, and it is easy to open and close one handed. It is not as fast as an Axis Lock, but it is definitely easy to use.

I have 2 that are perfect and easy to open and close. I had one that seemed to have a pretty strong spring on the lock. Sounds like you got a dud.
