Hello, I have been carrying a standard military S30V for over 3 years now and I work in construction so it gets used very heavily as a tool daily and holds a working edge great.

I couldn't be happier with it as I am a huge fan of liner locks and S30V but I have decided to branch out a little (not from spyderco) and I have been offered a sprint run manix 2 M4 on a local forum as a trade.

My question is would this steel and lock meet my expectations like the military has as a hard use EDC?

Hope this is in English:) I'm posting from my phone and its not the easiest task.

I have the Manix 2 XL, and I can tell you upfront that the ball bearing lock is definitely going to meet your expectations. It's definitely sturdy, lockup is rock solid, and you can find videos where people abuse the heck out of that knife and the lock holds up amazingly. But, unfortunately, I have no experience with M4 steel, so hopefully someone else can reply with their input on that, but I know that the lock on the Manix 2 is superb!

EDIT: here's a previous thread with all the info on M4 you would need, hopefully this helps!

M4 is a great 'Working' steel. It's what Gayle Bradley chose for his Spydie hard use folder. It's not as stain resistant as S30V, but with some minimal care, it will do just fine.

As far as the caged ball lock on the Manix 2, I've had several, and I've NEVER had any issues with it. All have locked up solid with no blade play, and I've never had the lock fail. Plus, the lock style makes it easy to flick open and closed once you get used to it.

I'd say go for the M4 Manix if it's a good trade. There weren't all that many of them made.

The BB exclusive Manix 2 M4 will meet your expectations.I would keep the blade lightly lubed and M4 has great edge retention. That model is a sought after piece and will make a fine user, but is smaller and a little more pocket friendly than the Military.Go for it......

Thanks for the replies guy's

I am messaging with him now and I think I will go ahead with it:)
