I haven't really had the chance to push it, but my initial impression is very very good. There are better steels that are stainless, but It seems to have hit a sweet spot between ease of sharpening, edge retention and toughness. I'd also be lying if I said the patina didn't help the attraction to it..it's just plain old fun and makes the knife so much more interesting.
Nice pics, looks like you have the same problem I have with photography -- "which one is THE shot?" How exactly did you achieve the hand-finish? Was it difficult to get the scratches all going lengthwise? I took the finish off of my Strider MFS and it has a similar ghost effect to its tiger stripes that you achieved with the spyder logo.
Nice pics, Evil D. I was lucky enough to get three of these during the factory 2nd sale this last November and it's among my top three favorite knives - right behind the Gayle Bradley and CTS-20CP Para 2. I haven't tried to put a patina on the M4 yet, and I haven't seen any develop naturally as I live in a somewhat dry climate. The Manix 2 is a great platform for sprint runs, and the M4, FFG and brown scales make this one a definite winner!
I can't tell you how much I regret missing out on that one.
As for the blade, I did the finish with a scotch brite pad, using a motion sort of like you would use when whittling a stick, one stroke at a time straight out the length of the blade. It took a while and they're not all perfectly straight but close enough. The patina was done by soaking the blade in lemon juice. The scales were supposed to be tan from the factory but they looked more gray to me so I dyed them a khaki color to match my work pants.
