I'm looking to replace a spydi that I lost over 25 years ago. I don't remember the model, just that it was my first good name brand edc knife.
I use my knifes at work as well as when I'm camping for food prep, gutting fish, popping the caps off my cold ones.
The blade shape and s30v material are some of the things that I like, oh and the lock mechanism. ( I'm not crazy about lock backs.)
All of my money on good blades has been going to Benchmade lately. I want to add some spice.
Any other models I should be looking for?
Thanks

Manix 2 is a great blade and you will probably like it considering your affinity for Benchmades. As far as a general cutter goes its a pretty fantastic blade. The price is good, the steel is good, the blade geometry is good, the handle is good, ergos are good, pocket clip is good, lanyard hole is good, the lock is good, and all that adds up to a really superb blade. Plus the whole package feels quite solid and substantial. Some other takers in the Spyderco line that might interest you are a FFG Endura/Delica of course, Military/Paramilitary, The Junior, any of the Sage Series, The Native, Stretch, ETC ETC! There is a lot of value in their lineup. I am sure a few others will chime in and tell you what you need! ;) Good luck!

The Manix 2 is my favorite Spydie right now. I will say that if you like the Axis lock you might start compairing the two locks and that could be good or bad. If you really want to mix it up look that the PM2. It is one of, if not, the most popular spidies right now. I have seen a few start to come back onto the scene for sale. That said I really love my Manix2.

The Para Military 2 is my favorite spydie but they're still hard to find. The Manix is great but if you are use to the Benchmade axis lock you might have a hard time getting use to spydercos version.

I like the Manix 2
The G10 version is as solid as anything else in that range, and the lightweight is a treat.
Bad phone pic comparison.

Thanks for the input guys. I would be all over the Southard if I could get my hands on one, but no luck. The sage 1 looks good too. I don't think the blue #3 would work for me. Most dealers seem to carry BM or Kershaw, so I'm buying sight unseen. Manix g10 s30v I think. The only thing that Im unsure of is the clear plastic lock button. Sage 1 is a liner lock... damn too many choices I tell ya

Suggested the sage 3 cause similar lock style to the one you said you had preference.

Manix 2 is a wicked knife. It's my favorite folder right now with my Paramilitary 2 close behind. The manix is a beastly knife. It's super solid and well built. Bit heavy if you get the g-10 version but the lightweight is the opposite. Only 2.8 oz. it's is nowhere near as heavy duty though. The locking mechanism should feel pretty good if you like BM axis locks. As for the PM2, they are around. Not impossible to find. I've seen tons lately and I even just ordered a satin/digicam one a couple days ago. There's tons going through the knife exchange forum too.

Don't forget the Domino, side by side I feel it is very close to the Manix 2 but I like it a whole lot more.
I prefer the frame lock and the full flat grind on the blade. Also it flips like a dream and carries well. I haven't touched my Manix 2 or Southard since it arrived.

My hands down favorite spyderco model is the military, but the Domino is an amazing little flipper. Both would be a great choice

The blue sage 3 could be easily (as in just a few screws to remove scales) died a navy/dark blue or black, even a dark green or burgendy using a $7 bottle of die from Walmart [Rit die]... If its size or whatever other spec you don't like then it doesn't matter anyhow but don't let color alone throw you off the S3.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Manix 2. I have the lightweight version, which I use as a work knife. Carries well but is super light for its size and slices without any trouble what-so-ever. The only downside with the lightweight in particular is that taking it apart isn't possible but cleaning can easily be done with a can of compressed air. While the Axis lock looks similar to the lock mechanism on the Manix2, they are definitely not the same but I thoroughly enjoy both.

Update:
While I was kicking all the different spydies around for my first replacement I saw the southards came back in stock.
I'm impressed with the fit and finish on this bad boy. A big plus is how light it is too.
I think I made the right choice as my intro back into the brand.

Manix 2 is great and the lock is like an axis lock. I would look at the Sage series. I like the Carbo Fiber and Titanium models.
