FYI I sanded mine down because I didn't like the two tone look and I think it looks/behaves like stainless steel. Mine's a very nice brushed finish now - matches the hardware and liners much better...
Yes, it must be stainless. Ti would not wear well in use for this component. (The backspacer also serves as a bearing surface for the ball on it's inside surface.)
That may be true, but one of it's other characteristics is that it galls against steel. That's a plus when it's used for a liner or Reeve lock, but might be a decided negative in a ball lock.I think I have mixed emotions about that being true, although a hardened steel will have higher wear resistance, titanium work hardens very well and might get harder than the steel when worked in.
