I bought the S90V sprint but sold it for a couple of reasons but one was I was absolutely bothered by the plastic cover over the lock mechanism. Now I see this and it looks like machine aluminum. Is that correct?

Only plastic in the Manix 2 lock is the ball cage which, AFAIK, is the same on all version. The top surface of the lock block that sits between the liners may be polished on that particular Sprint version, or the owner may have polished it himself. On the regular 154CM version and the CF/S90V version it has a bead blasted matte finish but it's metal and I'd bet it's the same metal as the one in Jeep131's photo.

I believe the piece you're thinking of is steel, at least on the regular manix-2. I'd have to check it with a magnet, but since mine developed a couple spots of dark rust over the summer, that would be my guess.

This was also a misconception on more recent Militarys too. I recall realizing the spacer on the Orange Military was actually black aluminum when I had thought it was plastic of some sort.

Do you mean the plastic "cage" over the ball, or the backspacer? As you note, they were all, always, metal. I believe they're stainless steel with a matte finish, as Paul says.

If you are talking about the ball carrier, it is injection molded polymer on the knife in that picture (FG/CTS-XHP Sprint), same as it was on the CF/S90V Sprint. If you are talking about the spacer that houses the lock assembly, it is a block of steel on both.

Yes my question was about the backspacer between the liners at the point of jimping.
I thought it was plastic. I should have asked this a long time ago. Thing is my Mini-Manix makes me happy enough. I am interested in the Carpenter steels so I may get one because of that.

Is the Para 2 slated to have any of the Carpenter steel?

There will be a sprint P2 with the Carpenter equivalent of S90V early next year. Scales will be gray G10.
