I was on the General Discussion of the Spyderco.com forum last nite and

came across an interesting post about a manix 2 torture test( putting a

a manix 2 thru a car door 50 plus times). He also tells about putting the

tip thur paint cans. Pg. 1 of Gen. Dissc. The car door is on Pg. 4.

The post is Manix 2 Torture Test..the poster is VashHash. Its a good

read with pics too. Enjoy.

The manix 2 is one Tough Knife!

I chipped mine stabbing a canning lid so I could get it open. Really tough overall though.

Good to know it can take some abuse! I bought one as a higher-end work knife to use over the summer with the hopes that I wouldn't end up having to 'baby' it - take it apart and thoroughly oil it, flush it out with canned air, replace springs or pins, etc - whatsoever. I seriously doubt I'll be putting it through any car doors, though.. :D

That one is hollow ground, no?

Yes - and I'm not sure I'd try doing that with the FFG. Too thin at the tip, I'd guess. Of course, I'm not sure I'd stab sheet metal with any knife unless there was a really compelling emergency!

Why would a blade being hollow ground ensure that the tip is any thicker? There are many hollow ground blades with tips that are thinner than similar FFG blades...

It wouldn't necessarily, but in the case of the Manix2 blades, the FFG has a longer, thinner taper than the HG.

Ahhh I see. I thought you meant that hollow grinds in general had beefier tips. My mistake, my mistake.
