I just got the translucent blue Manix 2 in today in CTS BD1 steel and sharpened it at 15 degrees on my sharpmaker. Is this an okay angle for this steel or will this carpenter steel not hold it? I love the edge 15 degrees produces and this carpenter steel takes a HIGHLY polished edge. Absolutely beautiful. What would you guys do? Leave it at 15 or raise it to 20?

Try it there and if you have any chipping issues or other problems, raise it to 20 per side. I bet you won't have any problems, IIRC BD1 is pretty tough for a stainless.

I like it, I think it is much better than alot of choices they could of went with, its below VG-10, I'd say, from my personal experience that its better than 8Cr13MoV and even AUS-8 but I am in the minority for liking it around here. Yes it does take a very perfect edge.

Will I need it due to the angle or the steel? What can I expect out of this steel? Is it more like vg10 or 8cr13mov?

Keep your primary bevel at 30 degrees on the sm and put a very light 40 degree micro bevel and it will perform fine. I'm with cereal killer...I like bd1. Very corrosion resistant, sharpens up super easy, and takes the sharpest edge of any stainless I've used. Seriously, this steel will get extremely sharp with very little effort. Enjoy

The CTS-BD1 doesn't hold and edge that long, but it is very easy to touch up.
It's a great knife for what you pay.

I just recently got into the spyderco realm. I have been a traditional knife collector for a while, Case, original USA made Old Timers, etc. I got my hand on a resilience and immediately feel in love about 3 weeks ago. Since then I have got a black blade tenacious, a saber ground delica 4,a ats55 endura 3, and the translucent blue Manix 2 because I HAD to have a USA produced spyderco. Yesterday I also received my g10 meadowlark 2 Byrd and must say besides how stiff the opening is even after oiling and adjusting the pivot screw I'm enjoying it as much as my delica, although I'm sure it's because it's FFG and I'm a major fan of FFG blades. By the way sorry about any grammar mistakes I'm posting on a phone and it's hard to type a good post on it. One more quick question. Why is it the Tenacious and Resilience open SO much smoother than the rest? I wish all spydercos opened like that.

I like CTS-BD1. Gets super sharp, polishes beautifully and holds the edge as well if not better than AUS 8A. Up there with VG-10, but easier to sharpen. Just my experience.

I kept mine at 15 degrees per side with my edge pro. Touch ups are a breeze.
