I am on the fence about whether I should keep my M2. I like it - but if I knew there was a FFG one coming out, I think I might wait for that one. I recall there being some discussion on some of the Manix threads about this, but in my reading I don't recall if there was a definitive answer. So I ask - will there be a FFG Manix 2 in the near future? I know a Prototype was recently won here on the forum - are more on the horizon..?

I'd keep it. As a base model, it's awesome, and as a $85 Spyderco, it's even better. A couple of Spyderco's just work with the hollow grind, the Manix 2 and D'Allara being two of them.

I can't see a FFG S90V Manix 2 being under $200. You've got the increase in steel price, plus the additional manufacturing costs of the FFG.

Keep it, and Krein it if you want a FFG. I'm liking the hollow grind well enough, and it isn't far behind the Manix, and actually cuts better on shallow slices started near the choil, while the Manix is better at cutting when you use the tips. My Manix needs a regrind to reset it's edge back in the .020" or under class, as over it's 2 plus years of super hard use and lots of sharpening it and sharpening out chips from more abusive type use the edge has thckened up substantially. The Manix 2 will probably go in to get a FFG to .015" or so, but the currect .025" edge with it's hollow grind and very acute angle are surprisingly good cutters and will definately hold up to super hard beater use. I think the BBL will stay rock solid no matter how much abuse it goes through, where the lock back in the Manix is still very solid after a couple years of abuse but has always has a tad of vertical play and probably has a bit more after chopping, very hard cuts, and other fun stuff. I really think the Manix 2 is an ergonomic and functional improvement over the original Manix with it's excellent caged BBL (I first saw and loved this on my Dad's P'Kal and think it is a great lock) that helps make the knife stronger and lighter than the original. For the $80 I paid Tom Berry I think I got one hell of a knife that will last me a long time and will take a beating and keep on ticking. Kudos to Eric Glesser and Spyderco for coming up with such an excellent value for it's customers. I really hope that this knife turns outto be a great seller, and at it's price point when you look at the competition I think it is by far the best knife for the money in the hard use knife class ( with the Stretch 2 taking the perfect EDC super slicer top value honors).

Is there going to be a Mini version of the Manix 2 coming out? I know it's already about the same footprint of the original Manix Mini, but just curious!

After hearing that the ball-lock is not quite on par an axis lock, I can wait. I heard many are having trouble actuating the ball lock with one hand. This is almost a deal breaker for me, I love the ease of axis locks.

But if they do a FFG S90v, I'll pick one up, ball-lock or not.

Best to wait though.

You can unlock with one hand, but not only one side. Comparing it to my 520 I think it's firmer and feels a lot more secure.

So you need two fingers, one on each side to actuate? That's no fun.

Oh well I think I'll still grab a FFG.

I agree. After getting accustomed to the CBBL, I feel like the Axis is too soft. There is is a feeling with Spyderco's iteration, that the lock isn't going anywhere when the lock is engaged due to the strength of their springs.

I wouldn't be suprised if there were a calculated effort to make it a two fingered engage/disengage effort too. There could be a little more immunity to some "selective definitions" from some overly power hungry government agency someday ;)

The BM 615 I just got as well as the Grip and Mini Grips I've had also didn't want to release with just one side. They would, but it took a LOT more wrist to get them to open. The bar in the axis does not pull straight back from one side in my experience. Maybe with some more wear (slop) it would... that being said, I've always used two fingers on "Axis style" locks, so using the M2 is no different.

To me the issue with the ball is the purchase you get (or don't) on the tabs. The spring pressure is fine with some time.

I really dig the caged ball lock. Once it get's some use, the lock loosens up a bit and it's easier to disengage. I think the lock has a great balance of smoothness and strength.

I'm kinda getting sick of the rattle in my axis lock BMs. I'm guessing that its the omega springs. The ball lock might help me fix the irritation.

I agree, my EDC was a D'allara before the manix and same issue, but after some use it feels great. If they release a FFG in an even better steel... :D
