Hello friends. Today I received a new Manix 2 XL with black blade and hardware. The knife was highly anticipated. However, I was dismayed to find significant side-to-side blade play once the knife is open and locked. This is a disappointment as I've collected Spydercos (dozens--maybe hundreds) since 1990 and this is the first time I've been let down. Anyone else have this problem with this model? The pivot screws came as tight as possible--my attempt to tighten them further found the screws immovable.

I've seen Sal post about other stepped pivot/comp lock models that there shouldn't be side to side play, and he suggested it get sent in...so I'd do that.

Perhaps a burr in the pivot? I'd return it or send it in.

I believe that side to side play is possible in the 2XL. I haven’t adjust the pivot on mine in a long time but I believe running them a little too loose can can cause some play. I’ve adjusted a few AXIS locks with similar issues when new.

I would suggest returning it or sending it to Spyderco. 'Significant' play is not supposed to be there.
Got my XL 'bout 6 years ago, it has and does get a fair bit of use. If I try hard enough I can feel a very tiny amount of side to side play in it. Almost nothing. I've never yet needed to dismantled it or adjusted the pivot
The XL is great folder IMO, don't let that one put you off.

I thank my friends for the replies. This particular knife has been returned to the dealer for a refund and another Manix2 XL black blade has been ordered from a different dealer. I'm encouraged by what has been posted and must assume that the original knife was an outlier.
