I've got a slight problem with my Manix 2 XL (which I just picked up, thanks Mike on BF). All my previously "big" knives seem tiny now. My Benchmade 5000 is now a slim EDC. My Endura 4 is positively tiny. Even my BM 710 is easily slipped into my pocket and forgotten about. I want my large knives back!! :)

On a more serious note. I like the Manix 2 XL quite a bit. Thanks Spyderco!! I just sharpened it on my Gatco diamond system to 19 dps, and then stropped it on my Stropman Compact HD. It is the sharpest knife I have ever sharpened myself. It pops hairs of my arms effortlessly, and push-cuts like a demon! I think I will be selling my smaller Manix at some point, to make room for better (or at least bigger) things.

What do you guys think about the XL? Does anybody carry it daily? If so, what does it do that "small" knives (like the Paramilitary 2, and Endura 4) can't do? And last, does anyone carry a knife that is bigger than the Manix 2 XL? (pictures welcome)

I don't exclusivly carry an xl, but I do every so often. The size is why I carry it, I prefer bigger blades of 3.5+

For me its easier to make a big knife do small things than it is to make a small knife do big things.

I have two of them and for duty or outdoor/woods carry I think they are great. During my down time I usually carry a smaller knife like a Benchmade Volli.

I carry a Military almost daily. It's .56 longer, but not quite as wide. It's my preferred size, for sure.

The XL is my favorite spyderco design. It fits my hand perfectly and I'm also a fan of bigger knives. Sadly, it doesn't see a whole lot of pocket time, as it is pretty big and most of my EDC tasks can be completed by a 3" blade. However, if I were leaving home base for a while, and could only take one folder with me it would be the XL.

Love the XL, carry mine at work quite often, other times a Military or ZT0561.
The XL is one of the few Spydercos that I believe really need a deep carry clip.

Yea, I'm not sure if it was to share tooling with the regular Manix, but the pocket clip clearly could be positioned deeper.

I installed a STR deep carry clip and it carries a lot better than with the stock clip. The deep carry pocket clip was a great upgrade.A little too much of the knife sticks out of my pocket with the standard clip. The XL is a good lightweight larger folder and carries comfortable for a 4 inch knife. .The ergos work good for me and it slices like a demon.I consider the XL one of the best value domestically produced production options currently available.A lot of value for around $100 bucks. The Manix line is one of my favorite Spyderco models going back to the old lock backs.

Indeed, I have no idea how they produce this knife in the US for $100. Enormous value!
