Got the Manix 2 XL today. 3.88 of blade, S30V steel, CBBL lock. I picked it up because I love spyderco and also the axis lock, so I wanted to experience their take on it. The ergonomics of the knife are great for me, the jimping prior to the thumb ramp is a little rougher than I'd like but it works especially since this is a big knife.

It's kind of suprisingly thin, and also suprisingly good at slicing. With how beefy this thing is - the handle is thick and heavy, and the blade itself is wide - it really tapers down and the stock isn't overly thick so it really slices like a Spyderco. Centering is good, no vertical blade play - but a bit of horizontal blade play. There is horizontal bladeplay when the knife is closed, I can move it around between the two liners. I have tried to adjust the two pivots but it hasn't had any effect whatsoever. I'm not sure if this is common to this model - I may send it to Spyderco.

The action is pretty smooth. The blade will fall really freely when I disengage the lock and the momentum might (it hasn't, but I project it could) might cause it to get a finger or two if I disengaged the lock without holding the blade with my other hand. The lock itself is good - maybe a hair sticky. Overall the fit and finish of the knife is a little less than I am used to.

I'd like to give the knife an A. If the fit and finish was better and it didn't have bladeplay in the closed and locked open positions, or a stickyish lock, I'd give it an A. But as it is, I think it gets a B-. If I send it in to Spyderco and they fix the issues I'll be happier. Make of that what you will - any questions from prospective Manix owners let me know!

When turning the pivot screw are you sure the opposite side isn't turning also? If it is you will have to get another torx bit to keep it from turning on you. That would explain why turning it hasn't made any difference in tightness.

You may not be able to tighten anymore due to the design of the pivot.

Correct, if it's built like the manix2, I don't recall any bladeplay while closed, but that's never been something I'm interested in, open, it had no blade play. Frictionless action, very good design.

Yea Rev, but since it locks using the same sort of principle as the Axis lock I consider them brother/sister locking systems. I actually think the CBBL is cooler than the axis lock. I like the spring loaded bar rather than omega springs. And yes, I can't tighten anymore due to the design. I've made sure to try to adjust both sides of the pivot.

The more I play with it as I sit around, the more I like it. I processed some cardboard boxes just messing around and it really destroyed them. It's surprisingly good at slicing as I said. It also has a nice weight (not *too* heavy) considering its bulk.
