I've been searching around for a new folder. I've been eyeing the Spyderco Manix 2 in 154cm. It has their new nifty caged ball lock, right blade length, and g10 scales which I like. Does anyone have any experience with this knife that can either dissuade me or finally push me to order it? Thinking of ordering from here http://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Manix-2-G10--4387

I've also been thinking of the Native is S30v instead. I like the S30v on the Native but don't like the lockback system as much, or the scales.

The Manix 2 is the one of the best values in an American made knife available today. Ergos are great, as is performance.

I like it so much I bought 3 of them!

I'd wait about a week for the 2010 catalog and see if anything new catches your eye, but that's an excellent choice nonetheless.

I think the Manix 2 is the best "working" knife Spyderco, or anyone else for that matter, has to offer right now. It has durable handle material (G-10) with an amazing grip. One of the strongest, ambidextrous locks on the market. A great blade steel that is low maintenance and easy to sharpen. And don't forget the price. you can't go wrong with the Manix 2.

Regards,
Matthew

What do you mean by "working" knife? As in a knife meant for utility work? I did a lot of searches on the Manix 2 but haven't found a tremendous amount of reviews or anything. All the specs look great but just doesn't seem to have a lot of buzz.

By working knife I mean it is the knife I take to work every day because I know it can do whatever I need it to. Because of the grind it has a very strong point but a relatively thin edge for good slicing.

And like I said before, strong lock and handle with a secure grip (and I am sure everyone here would agree that the grip is better than the Native) make it a very hard working, almost indestructible knife.

Hope this helps.

The Manix 2 is an outstanding value for an HD hard use EDC. It actually doesn't cut too bad for it's size and strength, but it won't slice as good as say a Stretch FRN. It will take a serious pounding however, and the quality and fit and finish are flawless. The steel is heat treated well and is very similar to VG-10 in terms of edge retention and maintenance. So, if you want a knife that can take a beating and keep on ticking for years upon years with decent cutting ability the Manix 2 is about the best $80 you can spend. If you want a pure slicer for the same price that is strong enough to get the job done but won't take a repeated beating without loosening up a little get a VG-10 Stretch FRN.

I have a quick question about the manix 2, specificly the link provided by Reeper22, didnt that model just come out recently? the link says that it is discontinued through Spyderco, is that true? and if so why?

Is there a set day when that catalog drops?

Kristi posted this on 12/6 on the Spyderco forums: We are planning on shipping them within the next two weeks. Once we release them to Dealers/Distributors, we will start mailing them to you too. I'll post an announcement when we put the pdf files up on the site.

The link is wrong (note: the MSRP is wrong. Should be $130, not $190. Also, title says 83mm, but the Manix 2 is 86mm). Maybe they confused it with the original 83mm Manix? The Manix 2 was just released this year and it seems that Spyderco has occasionally had a hard time keeping up with demand (at least judging from the number of stores -including Spyderco's own factory store- that say "out of stock"). In fact, Spyderco is planning on expanding the number of Manix 2 offerings with different handle materials/colors (already did carbon fiber, with FRN and maybe different colors of G-10 in the works) and blades (already did FFG/S90V, with other steels and maybe more FFG in the future as well). Anyway, it wasn't on the list that Kristi gave us last month of discontinued models, so it's safe to say it'll be around for quite a while.

Yeah thanks Jabba. I've read that a Terotuff handle is coming out but there is no info on what Terotuff is. Anyone want to shed some insight?

Price/quality ration is off the hook. A truly fantastic hard use EDC with really good looking jimping- as stated above some new variants will be coming out and at the price the Manix 2 is shipping out its a bargain. Get it!

What makes the Stretch a better slicer? The full flat grind?
Thinner blade, 3mm vs 3.5mm, plus the full flat grind.
