Manix blade play

I have a Spyderco Manix that is about 1 year old and it has developed quite bad vertical blade play. I disassembled it, and the pivot screw is apparently very soft, because it is quite worn away. I use this knife everyday, so I'd hate to lose it for a few weeks sending to Spyderco. Does anyone know of where I can a pivot screw, possibly hardened. Has anyone else had this problem?

Have you tried asking Spyderco to send you one?

I know you don't want to wait, but you need to send it in to Spyderco. They will either fix it or replace it, and study what went wrong with it. I had an Endura Wave that I waited forever to get, and it arrived with excessive blade play. It sucked to wait longer to use it, but the next day I sent it in and within a couple weeks I had a new one with a note that they would study it to learn from why it had failed. You would be asking way too much from any company to expect them to send you a new knife without examining your knife first.

He was looking for a pin. Spyderco should be willing to send a new pin with little question.

I am sure they will send him a new pin, but I know they would like to see the whole knife. If there was a problem with the pin, or the blade, or the fit, they can't correct it for the future if they don't know exactly what the problem is. Sal has posted elsewhere that they once received a small lot of bad lockbars, and when people sent some of them back, they replaced the knives, then found the problem, corrected it and took steps to make sure it wouldn't happen again. He is SERIOUS about quality. If you send it to them, they will repair or replace the knife, and they will have the opportunity to see if it is a one off defect or if there is a design problem. It may be a single bad pin in a lot, it could be a bad lot of pins, it could be a rough pivot hole in the blade. The only way to be certain is to let them see it.

I already sent this knife back once (day after I bought it) because of the blade play. They sent me a new one, one from the pile marked "knives with good parts" I hope. I just don't want to do that again, I think they learned from it what they could have already.
