Is the Manix free of major bugs?
You know, like the spring so stiff you can't open the blade, blade grinding when opened, lock play, etc.

I've not read of anyone's disappointments in the Manix, but is there a need for me to wait till the "bugs" are out.

In the past, I've jumped on the NativeIII, Calypso Jr, Para Military, Dodo as soon as they came out. All but the Calypso Jr had minor but anoying "bugs" that would be corrected in subsequent runs. This is not to say I am going to stop buying Spyderco, I own a lot of them.

I like the blade shape of the Manix, and it looks as strong as a snapping turtle.
Can I buy one now please without the bugs?

Not yet, there is still a small bug (spider or tick, maybe?) on the pocket clip. ;)

Seriously, mine is great but as with all lock backs, getting one without any vertical play in the lock is luck-of-the-draw.

BTW, Sal just mentioned in a recent thread that they are slightly reengineering a few of the locking parts to make it even stronger.

Mine has no bugs whatsoever. My son has one with an off-center blade, but otherwise no bugs.

It's a great knife -- I'm thinking about getting another one. I don't know if I'll wait until the redesigned lock is available -- the current lock is plenty strong.

Mine was perfect.

A touch of vertical play as inherent to the lockback format, but otherwise, smooth and easy opening, great F&F.

Thank you!
I like what I'm hearing fellows, sounds like a winner.
I should be making a purchase soon.

Mine came without an edge  Oh the horror.

The people at Golden corrected that for me of course. It has the teensiest bit of vertical blade play which seems to be getting less noticeable - maybe it's wearing in. I've noticed the lanyard hole and the rear spacer getting rusty from my sweat (I carry it IEWB - in elsastic waistband).

I dropped it in beach sand the other day and opening/closing was a bit gritty after than (I wonder why?) I rinsed it under the tap and relubed it and it is as smooth as ever.

This is my first S30V knife so my comments are probably a bit skewed - but it's the best perfoming folding knife I have used to far. I reckon it holds a scary sharp edge roughly twice as long as any other stainless blade when cutting sand/salt encrusted nylon rope, which is the sternest edge holding test in my universe.

I like it - it's a winner so far.

They are planning on making it stronger criminy! You'll be able to use it to jack up your car....
