Manix Dodo??!! A Frankenstein

I love the shape of the Dodo but for me the handle is very uncomfortable. I love the Manix handle, one of the nicest handles I've ever held.
I recently had the idea of wanting a Dodo titanium frame lock flipper with bearings and a better handle. I wanted to try this on one of my Dominos but I thought it would be better to try it on the Manix first. 180 dollar knife vs 70 knife.

Well I finished it and I am very pleased with the results. This is my First blade reprofile and regrind. Although it's not as sharp as I would like I know I will get it sharper with more tries. It's again the first recurve blade creation and first recurve sharpening.

Oh and I plan on making new carbon fiber scales and a backspacer for it. I will add those pics with I finish them ;)

Anyway here's what you all want!!

"That's cool like the other side of the pillow!" :thumbup: Very unique blade and nice recurve. I like the fact it's serrated too. Now what's this about a domino? :D

This was a lot of work. A lot. But I really like it so now I'm going to do it to my Domino so it will be a Dodo titanium frame lock flipper with bearings and I will make custom scales for it it will be so awesome :)
 
Man, that's awesome!! Makes me wish I hadn't given away my manix LW! :). I agree with you on the dodo handle. I love carrying the dodo as my second knife, but the handle ergos bum me out. It would ok if I always held the knife in a normal grip, but to me the dodo blade really excels when I'm fully choked up with thumb on the spine. In this grip the handle is a mess for me...there's no place for the pinky. In this grip, the handle is too big to get the pinky on the end, but too small to get all three fingers in the center concave. It's completely useable but keeps me from loving the knife. That regrind looks awesome! I may have to get another manix just to try!!
 
That's pretty cool. I'd get a Manix just for that. Maybe even a Manix XL! Dodo XL, anyone?

Man that's amazing!!

I just imagine little Bender in the background shouting "Fine then! I'll make my own Dodo! With jimping! And serrations!"

After thinking about it some more, I think a Southard would be better than a domino for this mod; thicker blade stock and better starting blade/handle ratio. Just my opinion.
 
That looks great! Nice touch rounding the spine and the serrations fit it well.:thumbup:

I actually was thinking that the other night. I just love this thing! I can't put it down.
The XL will definitely make it bigger ;)

Also thinking of giving one a fallout treatment :0
