Manix: Freaking SWEET

Bought a Manix off of KeithAM here, and I was really surprised at the heft and just solid feel of the knife itself. In a single word "beefy." If a folder was to replace a fixed blade, this would be it. I think I will pass up on buying a STRIDER SNG or SMF because this is all the knife a person needs in terms of a folder. The sound of the lockup is LOUD and you know that its secure.

Spyderco is such a great brand because they have such a wide selection and IMO their steels of VG-10 being a standard is better than Benchmade who has discontinued their M2 steel and uses 154CM alot more(nothing wrong with it btw).

I really did try looking for a Benchmade in a steel other than 154CM, but its getting harder and harder its even harder to find one in S30v, with the exception of the Skirmish.

Spyderco makes it easy.

For a soldier, a swiss tool, a manix combined with the hell razor, is a combo hard to beat in the field!

Sounds good! Chinook II is even stronger.

I would like to hear your reasoning behind this remark since the manix and Chinook II use the same blade steel, same handles, same liners, same lock, same thickness of blade, same everything except the blade profile and grind, and now the Chinook II is going to a flat grind as well so that just leaves the blade profile. I am not saying you are wrong, but I would love to hear your path of reasoning in this remark as well as see/hear what evidence you are basing this statement on.

The Chinook II has a thicker blade friend.

That's funny....spyderco website lists both blades at 5/32nds" they must be wrong about their own knives.....and looking at the two of them in my hands right now....I don't notice any difference in blade thickness unless you were referring to the distal taper in the manix in which case I would submit that the greater depth of blade on the manix makes up for the taper in thickness and also makes it a better slicer....I will get out my micrometer to make sure, but I don't see any difference in thickness with the naked eye.....rowdy27 you should tell spyderco that the specs they have listed for their knives are wrong so they can fix them. Is it possible that the original chinook had a thicker blade? I don't know.

The original Chinook 2 did have a thicker blade. The new ones are flat ground.

Thanks Bok, looks like BC is lookin' for a fight.
Anyway up here in the Great White North..the Endura goes for $70, the Manix for $140 and the Chinook II is over $200 CAD. Put that in yer pipe & smoke it bud. Lol.

I almost bought the Manix myself but couldn't justify the $$ for a folder..I like Spyderco plenty, but I like good fixed blades even more.
Anyway, the Manix is a great knife & I know StevenKim will truly enjoy it.
Sorry if I offended y'all, it wasn't my intent. Peace Dan'l

Not lookin' for a fight rowdy, was originally curious as to your reasoning behind your "stronger" comment. my second post may have had a little sarcasm in it because I perceived the same in your post with the "friend" tacked on the end. I am sorry if I got a little snotty. I truly just wanted to hear your reasoning as I like both knives, but can't really come up with a reason to call one stronger than the other. Your comment had an air of authority to it so I naturally assumed that you were aware of some intrinsic aspect of the Chinook II that made it stronger than the manix, and I wanted to know what I was missing. I apologize for my sarcasm.

Rowdy, if you like fixed blades, you should take a look at the temperance from spyderco. It has been discontinued now and you can buy it directly from them for $69.99 American. VG-10 steel, wonderful ergonomics, excellent sheath, and great blade geometry. I think they still have several in their outlet store. Blade profile looks like an elongated manix. Sheath is kydex and comes with a large tech lock. All in all a wonderful package

That's a great knife. But it needs a friend to keep it company. I recently bought a "Military" model Spyderco with carbon fiber handle scales. What a beauty this is with a 4" blade. I think the Military and the Manix would make a great team.

I've had both a Chinnok II and a couple of Manixes. The construction is virtually identical. To make a blanket statement that the Chinook II is stronger is inaccurate.

For my use, I wouldn't rank tip strength as the most important consideration. I'm not in the habit of stabbing something hard and then twisting the blade out. Blade shape and grind are higher on my list of things to consider when choosing a knife.
