Manix in s110v,sharpening>>?

That's all subjective as to what task you're asking your steel to perform. I have a BM 940-2 in s30v that I haven't had to take it to my Edge Pro in as long as 2 1/2 weeks. But my M390 PM2 which is in the same realm as 110v, I've had to take it to the Edge Pro in as little as 8 days because my edc task were much more demanding. I know I didn't quite answer your question but your asking something very subjective is what I'm getting at lol.

I recommend getting a "Knife Plus Strop" to maintain your Edge retention longer if sharpening is a mundane task for you. Personally I love sharpening all my steels.

A SharpMaker with clean rods will work just fine on 110.

I actually have the light weight Manix in S110v. For edge retention I actually do feel it lasts longer. Hard to quantify as I use it for mundane things and not for work. I also enjoy using the polishing wheel on my paper wheel set which is all I've needed to do. When I do check the edge the only times I have really seen a "ding" or a slight shiny spot on the cutting edge with bright light are when I cut through food and hit the plate. Always in the same spot on all my knives, halfway up the belly. (Can I get an amen) . There probably isn't a Steel that resists that for too long. I could have used a Steel but that isn't really part of my routine yet

Your experience does not seem to coincide with the experience of many, or the compositions of the steels. Your answer seems to hint that s30v has better edge retention than m390, and therefore also better than s110v, because s110 according to you, is virtually the same as m390.

Well I can tell you that s110v with TWICE the amount of Vanadium & a good bit of Cobalt, has quite a bit more edge retention than m390. It's also QUITE a bit more difficult to work with.....Including sharpening! In addition, indicating that an s30v edge (retention), will outperform (last longer than) an m390 is simply not true! Not according to, not in someone's opinion, not in someone's experience! It just simply IS NOT!

S110v is among the most difficult steels to work with. Using a Sharpmaker WOULD NOT be my 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice for the task.

I'm sorry I stand corrected I got my steels flipped around lol. Probabaly one of those nights where I was drinking a bit after work. S30 I have to hit up every 8 days. M390 and s110 I hit up every 2 weeks is how t should read ..sorry for the confusion I may have caused lol.
I digress that NO I would not use the Sharpmaker for m390 OR s110...my M390 took me an hour just to fix all of the errors from the factory and get that hair popping Mirror finish I like ...

I agree with you, m390 with a good bit of Vanadium and it's small dose of Tungsten, is a very high wearing steel, which can put up a fight in sharpening. (I make knives with CPM20CV as one of my two main steels, which has the same elemental composition as m390. So I do know!)

Oh! And I fully understand the nights of one or uh,,,,TEN too many! LOL No reason to be sorry though. I don't think you caused any confusion. I just saw your post today going through threads. I'm like a fact checker, lol. See something incorrect, and I correct it! I certainly don't do it to be at odds. Some people get angry. Just can't admit being wrong. I would want to be corrected if I mis-spoke. And I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong. It's happened here! Aquaholic, I see honesty in you. So you know as well, I wasn't directing the Sharpmaker comment towards you.

Yeah manly I was just getting at that no matter what type of steel you have whether it be s30v..or some super premium like m390..if the only thing I do with my s30v BM is open boxes and cut apples for my wife then of course the Edge is going to last longer than my M390 steel that I use to strip insulation off of 500kcmil wire 3 times a week? You get my argument ? That's why I reiterated to importance of what your asking the steel to do..and how often..

Trust me I'm a knife nerd and I know my chemistry on the steels as well...most people on BM see knives as just collectibles ..I view them as numbers and stats to be honest..
