Manix or Chinook?

I'd like to pick up one of these two, presumable after the holidays (once I've taken care of shopping for everyone else...), but can't make up my mind.

Any recommendations? Why?

Peace.

So far I'm leaning toward the Manix, since it's going to be a general utility/EDC knife for me.
However, I've heard that the Chinook sports a stronger lock (MBC certified, for whatever that's worth).
In terms of construction, are these two folders pretty similar? Seems to me that they're both essentially built the same way, with nearly the same materials, so it comes down to a preference in design... true?
I've seem some pix of the Manix that show a reversible clip (tip up/tip down), and some that do not. Is it actually a 4-position clip? Does the Chinook offer this?
Any more input?
Thanks.
Alex.

The handle of the Manix and the ChinookII are rather similar although I do prefer the handle of the Manix. Both offer all carry options. I believe the strength of the locks to be almost the same. For general use the shape of the blade of the Manix is more versatile although the Chinook is probably better to scare the NKP. Both are great knives however and personal preferences are IMO more important.

The Chinook II has a rare combination of belly and point.
Please note that the point falls on the extended centerline of the handle, which makes it a stabbing point.
Further, the up-tilted point on the Chinook II will penetrate on a reverse or upward hooking motion, such as lifting and stabbing forward into an attacker's abdomen, much better than will the drop point of the Manix.

The Chinook II has a handle optimized for retention.
It won't come out of the hand in an extreme situation, neither forward nor backward.

The Chinook II lends itself to the Mexican carry, or reverse point and edge forward grip, which has merit in certain situations.

I consider the Chinook II the premiere folding self-defense and field knife.

The Manix looks like it would feel very good in the hand.

I don't care for a broad drop point, as on the Manix.
The broad drop point sacrifices acuity of point and provides nothing in return.

i agree with Breuker

I don't know.

The Chinooks have a stronger point but the Manix has a more useful blade shape. They're probably of equal strength.

Think it'll be the Manix.
I like both of them equally, really, but the Manix appeals because it looks a little more "urban-utilitarian," as opposed to "alaskan bear hunter," if you catch my meaning.
Perhaps I'll regret not getting the Chinook if I take the Manix hunting (the Chinook blade is shaped perfectly for skinning medium-sized game, like white-tails), but I have plenty of knives I use for that application.
The Manix also seems a little less scary, should I have to cut something with it in front of non-knife people.
Thanks, guys!

Edit: now, let's see if it replaces the CQC-10 as my EDC... :D

Peace.

I've never handled the Chinook, but I just got the Manix. Great ergos, very comfortable in the hand. Solid lock-up, smooth opening, very sturdy. Best suggestion, is if you have the opportunity to handle both, do so. I have to agree, it is a matter of personal preference. You need to find out what you like and what is comfortable for you.:) Happy Hunting fellow knifebro.:D

God Bless:)
