i am going to buy a new knife but i can not decide between the swamp rat knive rat trap or sypderco manix please help thanks

Manix.

Better lock.
Stronger knife.

The Rat Trap has a thin liner lock.

Go with the round hole.

Never owned or handled a Manix. I do not think that it is ethical for me to comment on a knife I know nothing about, except photographs.

All I will say is that I am totally delighted with my Rat Trap, and it has quickly become my sole every day carry.

You also have to consider what you want to use the knife for. I've read that while the Manix is heavier duty and can perform more tasks than the Rat Trap could, it is a big knife and can be uncomfortable to carry.

I have a Rat Trap on order because I like the low ride clip, thinness, light weight and good blade:handle ratio. I chose it out of three knives I was looking at: a Mini-Skirmish, Paramilitary and the Trap.

GO with the Manix, it's a better knife
It's bulkier knife, too.
I'm waiting to my Rat trap to come… next week probably, and it should be more pocket-friendly than Manix (which is great in hand and avesome slicer too)

Manix + better grip, much sturdier, switchable clip, good lock
- big in pocket, backlocks harder to clean

RT + thin profile, full size blade
- liner lock, tip down L/R only

I think Eric Glesser's Manix is a brilliant design. I had 2 of them. But I sold them because after trying one out for a while it felt huge in my pocket because of the way the blade spine sticks so far out from the handle. Basically, it took up my most of my right front pocket, and it was hard to get my hand past it to fish anything else out of my pocket. In short, it just didn't carry well for me.

Although the Manix has great ergonomics, blade geometry and a super strong lock, I can understand why someone would prefer a lighter knife with a slimmer profile that has just as much blade. Even if everything else is right, if a knife doesn't carry well, it's not going to get used as much as one that does.

In general it is two different knife concept.

I say that Rat is big gentelman knife. In is pretty elegant mostly because it is quite thin and relatively light for this size - so it is very comfortable to carry in your pocket. It is perfect EDC and it is Military who may compete it not Manix.

Manix is in different leage even with same size it is much much heavier, thicker etc. It is more like field knife IMHO.

Both are exceptional pieces of cuttlery.

Thanks, Vassili.

the rat trap is a great knife. thin, easy to carry.

but if you want to beat the knife up i say get a manix.

Well Swamp Rat have certain reputation and I doubt that Rat Trap will not be able to stand beating. And if you really need something to beat up - get Swamp Rat fixed blade...

On my opinion it is just two different animals (and I have both) and they do not really compete.

Here some pictures to compare:
