Manix or Rukus

I happen to be carrying the rukus right now.great knife, sharp blade, deep pocket clip. nice handle, feels good in the hand.very useful blade shape.Slight flick of the thumb stud & it flies open. very smooth.like the axis lock a lot.only down side is its a bit heavy when in the pocket , & of course the size of it is felt more when carrying as opposed to smaller knives.i dont have a manix so i cant compare. from all ive read, it too is a great knife. might be heavy in the pocket, too ?

I own both and love them both equally, but I find the Manix gets more pocket time. I like the wider handle and the flat grind on the blade which makes it a better cutter. Also in a knife as big as those two I prefer the lockback of the manix even though I know the axis lock is strong. The Rukus to me is more of just a large EDC where my Manix is my work horse EDC and I use it for anything and everything without worry.

I don't have a Rukus, but I am carrying my Manix as usual. I have sold off some of my other folders after getting the Manix, because they just sat at home gathering dust. It cuts extremely well, and has a very comfortable handle and secure lock.

let me preface with the fact that i don't own either of these knives.

i was however lucky enough to drop by gpknives today and handle a bunch of knives i had only previously seen online

to me, a ruckus and manix are a terrible comparison in size distribution (girth vs width), lock (axis vs. lockback), cost (~$50), blade length, and blade style.

for the ruckus i would really wont to compare it to the ontario retribution 1 or the big lone wolf folder.

for the manix not too much comes to mind. i would consider the military and chinook +/- benchmade afck/710, full size ritter (with regard to blade profile/solid grip), rat trap (never seen this guy in person) and maybe the mid size lone wolf. none are really good direct comparisons obviously...

based on handling the manix, i really think it fits a pretty "unique" nitch... just my 2 cents... i would really love to own BOTH!

I'm not a Manix fan, but the Rukus is my next EDC. It just feels right for me. Most comments lean towards the Rukus being large, I find it to be a good size for my demands.

Handled the Manix, bought a RUKUS.

Both are good knives IMO. To me, it comes down to the lock, which means axis wins.

I've played with both several times. They're both incredible knives.

For value, the Manix is a clear winner.

But if I didn't care about the price (and I don't, personally) I'd get the Rukus. Mostly that's a lockback versus axis lock thing..my least favorite versus my most favorite.

Can't really go wrong here.

I'm also carrying a Rukus as I type this and really love this knife. I can't speak too the Manix as I've never handled one, although I've owned a Spyderco Chinook I and II, which are close in size to the Manix. I've always liked the G-10 on Spydercos and those Chinooks were no exception. But I really, really like the grip of the Rukus and like the overall knife and the way if feels in hand and carries in pocket. I also like the idea of being able to change out handles for the Rukus, although I don't like the prices on those handle sets!

The Manix fits in the pocket a little better. I have never minded carrying a big folder in my pocket, but the Rukus is almost too long.

Both feel great in-hand, but the Manix feels better.

But cut well, but the Manix cuts a little better. The blade is thinner and the factory edge is better (but after sharpening that doesn't matter).

The Rukus can be opened and closed easily with one hand. The Manix is trickier to close with one hand.

Both my Manix and the Rukus that I sold had a little blade play, but it was very minor in both cases (verticle on the Manix- normal for a lockback, side to side on the Rukus, fairly normal for an Axis lock with the pivot set loose to make opening and closing super smooth).

The Manix is a no-frills working knife. The Rukus is a stout work knife as well, but it is more flashy in looks and execution (which is good or bad depending on your POV). The Axis lock is easier to flick open and closed, but I am not much into knife tricks.

I liked the Manix more overall.

Who has/held both knives as an edc and would like to comment?

I owned the Manix, and it was a big knife. Great workhorse, I still wonder why I sold it.

I got the chance to handle the Rukus at a brick and mortar store, and it is a beast. Bigger than the Manix. Not just length etc, of course it's bigger by the book, but holding the Manix in one hand and the Rukus in the other, the Rukus looks like its almost twice the size. Just immense.

As far as the action and handles, the action of both knives feels good, the Manix has a strong lockback, and the Rukus has a strong axis lock. However, I am not a fan of the two piece handle. The dealer also said that BM is re evaluating the two piece handle.

I have them all Rukus, Mini Manix and Manix. Hard to go wrong either way. Full size Manix has found a permanet home in my pocket.

I love the Rukus design, but prefer the mini Manix. I've been lucky to get a mini with zero blade play in either direction.

Manix. I think it spanks the rukus. I like the ruckus design but its just not as useful as the manix. Plus i find the lock back more secure and comforting than the axis lock.

just my .2 cents

Rukus. The manix too me did not fit my hand that well, as I prefer less "ergonomic" handles,(a manix with a chinook's handles however.... )
The rukus fits fine, just thicker.
