Sal, Somebody needs special manix! as much as other custum folder's price.
Because, the manix is worth more than strider havy duty folders.
In that they couldn't have made a lock-back mechanism,up to now.
I have a SnG. I love it. But that is not lock-back.
I would like to have the customized manix that is different handle and blade materials. :D
How about you make a custom line for collectors ?
from asian customer...

What blade steel would you rather them use? They use one of the finest available already. I guess they could beg borrow and steal for some INFI or something but S30V is some damn fine steel.

Same for the handle. G10 is awesome stuff.

Personally, What I want things are

1. Blade= laminated ZDP 189 Core / 420 Stainless (now used in williamhenry quest model) or S90v

2. handle=g10 with titanium bolster and one clip hole(now=4 or 2(?) )

3. more large pivot like strider bull pivot :)

Hi H.J.Choi. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

1. I'd rather do the S90V, or maybe S125V?

2. What color G-10?
Why Ti liners, the steel liners are skeletonized. Not much would be gained on weight.
Why not 4 hole locations? appearance? Which hole location is preferred by you?

3. When we break it, the pivot is not what breaks first. What would be the advantage of a larger pivot? appearance?

Improvement is our evolutionary obligation to humankind.

what i know is that on unlined, or single lined FRN or G10 the pivot just tears out of the handle material, or the lockback fails.

When dual lined i think it will be the hole for in the liner will get so deformed that the lockup is ruined and the knife will either not lock up any more( bending, breaking lockback bar), or there will be massive bladeplay.

just my two cents

I think Mr. Glesser once said that even the "hook" in the blade, that the lockbar engages can tear out of the blade. But I think he stated that in response of a lockback with a thinner blade (Native II, I believe).

Personally I love the 4 position holes.
The S30v is great. That and VG10 are my favorites.
The whole Ti vs steel seems like it would just add $ for no real reason.

I'd like to see a steel that takes more of a beating without chipping (like INFI or whatever SWKW uses...) so I can really beat the hell out of it ;)

Currently the Manix is my absolute favorite knife.
Thanks Sal and tha gang.

Hi Garageboy. In the last test, the lockbar broke. We were well into the "very heavy duty" (MBC) lock range. But we re-engineered the lockbar anyway. We've also made some minor changes to the engineering on the pivot.

We'll do another break when the new parts are alll in production.

Sal, this might look like a stupid question but isn't it smart to integrate a "weak link" into the design, so should catastrophic failure occur  the blade would not be able to break or disconnect from the handle, but some sort of "brake" safety where the user gets a firm warning that he used his knife beyond the safetylimit without actually breaking any vital parts, but that it will make the knife inoperable?

Does anyone have an everyday example of how to break a Manix, I mean a genuine task for the knife that can do that. It seems to me I break something myself long before the knife does.

Agreed. I have a CII and not a Manix, but those four positions are what makes the knife work so well for so many people with different requirements. Aesthetics be damned! That functionality needs to be in more knives, not less. :)

Another vote in favor of keeping the 4 clip positions. I changed my Chinook II to tip-up and like it that way much better. I'm ambidextrious so there's a chance I'll someday switch it to lefty. It's a utilitarian feature, and on a knife like the Chinnok or Manix looks should not be such a high priority. On the other hand, I wouldn't be in favor of multi-position clips on an elegant Spyderco like the Persian, for example.
