Manix vs Chinook from a different angle

I was just reviewing some of Michael Janich's material, and was reminded that sometimes you won't be able to open your knife immediately after drawing it. You might have to strike with it as an impact weapon, or with the hand holding it to make space to effect your opening. With that in mind, I got out my manix and chinook 2, and played with them a bit. I really like both knives, but I tend to prefer the manix, and carry it much more than the Chinook 2 (that might change now that I have a flat ground one lol). I found, after messing around with both for awhile, that, at least for me, the manix is harder to use as an impact weapon, or hold in the hand while striking when it is unopened than is the Chinook 2. I just thought I would bounce this thought off everybody here to see what a diverse crowd of Knife Knuts thought about this aspect of these two knives, or, for that matter, any folder.

I always liked the upswept blade for SD. But I prefer the ergos of the manix. I'd buy the manix first....but they're both too big for me to personally EDC, so the dodo will have to do.

I carry and use the Manix every day for a multitude of chores, and I will always prefer it for 95% of the tasks I might use a knife for, but I just got to thinking about possible SD scenarios where the blade wasn't immediately deployed....Hopefully, and the odds say, I will never, ever be in a situation that I would have to use a knife in SD, so it is a purely hypothetical situation, but I just thought I would bring it up to see what falls out of the ether.

I like both of them. Actually I am more attracted by the chinook blade shape, but the thicker handle of manix I find more comfortable when using it for cutting as hunting knife. The thinner handle of chinook seems to me more sabre-like handle, offering grip which is probably better for tactical or SD purpose, which is not that important to me.

My favorite would be Manix handle + Chinnok blade shape. Not decided hollow or flat ground Chinook blade style, as I am still waiting for a flat ground one to try :)

If creating distance or space for the blade to be deployed, the butt-end strike("punyo" in FMA) can be used, I'd go with the pointyness of the Manix.
