Hi, I was looking at both well talk about knife. The new designed Chinook II became vary vary similar with Manix in material, size over all.

The most distinctive difference will be the blade shape. What is the reality reason for a curve up knife design such as Chinook? For everyday use, what is the pro and cons from these 2 knife shape?

Personal taste aside, how does shape effect the performance?

I am not trying to make purchase decision, just curious about it.

the manix's full flat grind will make it a better slicer.

the chinook may have an edge in stabbing, and perhaps in totoal edge length, i'm not sure

My Manix will out cut my Chinook II due to the full flat grind. Both are excellent knives so, I would just get the one that appealed to me most. The Chinook II is probably the better self defense knife and the Manix is probably better for general utility. I highy recommend either.

The blade shape of the Chinook is what kept me away from it. I am quite sure it serves it's purpose very well (self-defense; backslashing would be pretty devastating I would think), but I have little to no use for a dedicated SD knife. Somehow that leaf shaped blade of the Manix really grabs me. Although I hope the blade never REALLY grabs me because it slices like crazy and I'm sure I would bleed a bit, or more...
