i noticed on spyderco's website that both knives are rated MBC

does that mean that one is not stronger than the other?

i'm looking for a hard use utility folder...dont care about SD applications

i like the looks of the manix much better

they both seem to have 4mm thick blades and the same lockup?

thanks............Bill

I have a Chinook II and you would have to go some to beat it as far as heavy duty work is concerned. I have looked at the Manix and it appears to be a combination of blade from the Military with the handle of the Chinook II. I love that handle, but I prefer a thicker spine out to nearer the tip on a heavy duty knife that is provided with the flat grind of the Millie/Manix style of blade. I have read too many complaints from people whose Militaries have lost their tips. On the other hand, there are many here who swear by the Military.

I have both, and they're both great, but I prefer the flat ground leaf blade on the Manix.

exactly, flat-grind is the ultimate. i've just now cut up a truck-load of very thick cardboard and i constantly alternated between 6 spydercos, to see which one did this job best.

here were the contenders:

-ATR-ss, practically brand new, factory edge, hardly used it
-Police plain, beaten-up POS, resharpened by myself lately
-Police serrated, brand new
-Delica serrated, near new, once resharpened by myself
-Karambit, brand-new, has cut only air
-Military, beaten-up POS, resharpened by myself lately

guess who did the job best?..........the Military!

runner-up was the ATR, very good. then the Karambit (what a nice surprise to see THAT!), then the Police serrated (but only if i did it real fast and hard, which is dangerous, the serrations kind of grabbed), then the Police plain (not bad!), finally the Delica serrated.....

glad i got a new spydie mili black incoming! :D . and my next knife will def. be also with a flat- or v-grind blade! flat-grinds just sliiiiiiide through everything because of the blade-shape. or maybe the good 'ol cpm440v op my old mili was helpful as well ( )

PS. get the Manix!
