Manix vs Zero Tolerance 300's

manix. carries better, better all around blade shape. opinions vary but perhaps better blade steel.

Two totally different knives..... Both great ... neither superior to the other..
-Framelock V/S backlock
-Flat grind leaf/ big thick recurve

Only thing that can be said , is they are both super tough...
It will be very hard to come by a plain edge Manix cheap right now.. But there are plenty of mini manix around..

I would prefer the manix only because of the opening hole... and its the only one ive ever tried..
Good luck....

300.

1- hey, I have a blatant and obvious Kershaw preference in my knife-buying habits.
2- I have that kershaw bias for good reason.
3- Speedsafe.
4- It comes in coyote brown.

Manix. I have four of these. Does that tell you how much I love 'em? It's always in my jacket pocket and I don't think a folder gets any better than this! Any tougher really gets into fixed blade territory. Rest assured, the Manix can handle almost anything. But despite being such a beefy knife it cuts great.

I am sure the ZT is a great knife. Kershaw is a great company and they make great knives, but none of them have ever appealed to me, ZT300 included.

Definitely ZT300! This one is a hell of a knife. In my opinion it cuts great for such a beefy blade, nearly indestructible, titanium + G10, framelock, SpeedSafe.

I own both and carry the Manix. Big ol flat grind and better ergos go to the Manix. IMHO anyway.

Manix
Great knives and the ZT series never appealed to me either. Too "tactical" looking for me I guess. I like simplicity, a thin knife overall for comfortable carry, and a knife that cuts very well without any recurves. The ZT's never hit any of those niches for me. The Manix is also a little cheaper...though harder to find. Why did Spyderco dicontinue them anyway?

I'm not sure how you can compare the two?

I've handled both and the ZT 0300 is in the heavyweight category and the Manix is much lighter and less bulky. Honestly, I wouldn't carry either since folders that large should be substituted by fixed blades. We alsohave to consider price points and the fact that a Manix is more economical.

If you plan on getting one, I would suggest the ZT 0200. Still a beast but for about the same price of a Manix you get a LOT more knife!

Neither. If I wanted "toughness" and were willing to carry that weight, I would get a "small" (i.e. about the same size blade) fixed blade, e.g. Fallkniven F1 (~ weighs about 150g (the knife itself, without a sheath), while ZT 0300 is around 240g and Manix 175g).

But for a folder I'd rather get a lightweight cutter e.g. Spyderco Military.

Manix.....by a couple ounces.

ZT0300 is a great knife. Very solidly put together. Speedsafe is cool but gimicky to me. HEAVY package.

Manix delivers as much if not more, in a more utilitarian package, with much less weight.

Good points. I've been thinking about getting a Manix for awhile now. Then I saw the ZT's. I'll probably end up with both, but wanted to narrow down which one first. A fixed blade isn't going to work for me because of my carry style and weight doesn't matter. I usualy lean towards the more heavy dutie knives, but like to be able to cut. I have three buck striders (880sp, 880tp, and 882 with g10 scales), which are great, but because of the blade grind they dont cut the best. Both the Manix and the ZT seem like they would cut better because of the blade grind.

If you want both you'd better try to get the Manix first. It is discontinued and will only get harder to find.

Just in case anyone was wondering, I decided to get both. I just ordered the ZT301 yesterday and am waiting on a reply for the Manix on Ebonza.

I own the Manix and have owned a 0301. I prefer the Manix because it cuts better. The Manix was my EDC piece for over a year and performed flawlessly.

It's certainly going to come down to your preference. Overall, I prefer the Manix. Here are my opinions on both

Ergos: Manix
Feeling of toughness: 300s
Lock: I like them equally
Steel: both S30V
Blade shape: Manix is better for slicing with a weaker tip. 300 is not so good at slicing, but will stand greater lateral stress because of the thick edge. I don't like recurves (300).
Color: ZT300s come in cool colors, Manix is fairly plain in comparison, but some prefer it that way.
Opening method: I personally like the Spyder hole, but some really enjot the flipper/thumbstud/AO opening options of the 300.

Have you considered reprofiling one of your Buck Strider knives?

Neither. Get a Kershaw Lahar, about $50 bucks, good VG-10 steel, G-10,
solid lock up and great workmanship.....

If I were to carry one of those 2, it'd be the ZT 300. I figure if I'm going to have something that big in my pocket, it might as well fully fit my hand (Depth of handle, not just length), & the ZT does that better. Other than that, they really are different knives. I wish ZT would make a smaller model (About 4.5" handle & 3.5" blade or so would be great).
