I received the sword yesterday and was immediately impressed at first look with the scabbard and the dragon engraved on the hilt, very clean lines. I then took the sword from its sheath I thought "nice blade'. It needed to be cleaned up a bit around the guard at the hilt but that was minor.
I had been reading the threads on how to see the hamon using the etching method that Rishar outlined using vinegar. It worked fine so here are a couple of pictures and a short video of some H2O cutting.

Excellent video:) Did you touch the edge up at all before you made the cut? My Manjushree came sharp enough to do major damage, but all that I could clear cutting wise was a 20oz. Of course, my technique is horrible:o

Great sword, ain't it?;)

I was surprised to find a 4 inch dull area about six inches from the tip on both sides the rest of it was fairly sharp but I put it to the sandpaper boards and she is slicing sharp now. I think she's a keeper.

Ah great idea:D:thumbup: I didn't sharpen mine, but it was sharp enough to cut the full length. After a few test cuts, I ran a butcher's steel down mine a couple of times. pretty sharp:)

Nice new Manjushree. Mine is an older model by Sher, and it has the ball without the full tang. Mine has nice carving, but it is lighter than the new one. The Sher has wavy fullers. Does the Bura model also have this "feature?"

I haven't attempted to cut anything with the sword - I worried about the strength of the partial tang.

I also have a Kris Cutlery gladius - it is much more blade heavy than the Hi model Manjushree. The Hi product has better balance.

The fullers are knid of wavy I'd say,its not geometrically perfect either but I didn't expext it to be knowing how they make them
Was thinking of getting the Gladius from Kris but decided to get this instead, been looking at the Celtic sword from Kris, maybe next month..

Thanks for all the replies.

That Kris Celtic sword is a nice looking piece as well. I've often thought about picking one of those up some day. I think it might be a nice looking piece to have hanging above my framed family crest that I have as you enter my home.

I thought that I was getting bitten by the sword bug until the Manjushree showed up at my door. Really, it's everything that I could want in a sword. Easy enough for a novice, like myself, to use, great slashing, great thrusting, and a great blend of traditional western-looking swords with flair of Eastern culture. Also, quite honestly, the price of the manjushree makes it easy to use. While I won't be cutting any wood with it any time soon, a $700 or $800 katana this is not. Scuffs, scratches, and dings from cutting cardboard, pool noodles, and water bottles can be polished out (or left, really) and I don't feel bad for using the sword (a cardinal sin, IMHO, of any HI product).

My Manjushree has been tested, and it passed. I keep meaning to take it home, but I can't stop playing with it here at the office:D

:D

I have a similar thing in mind. One of my interests is treasure hunting, last year I was in Colchester England where I uncovered a Celtic gold stater from 40 b.c. North thames tribe I have thought of displaying it and thought a sword from the period would go well with it along with a few other things.
