Got the manly wasp in s90v. Came with a nice working edge on it. Used it for 2 days. The hardest thing I cut was some small diameter fuel line. It's got flat spots all over the bevel. I just hit it on the 325 DMT to leather with diamond spray. I'm seriously disappointed that the edge degraded so quickly. I emailed the company. Let's see what happens. Going to work it tomorrow and see. I think it's a dud but too early to tell. I have 440 c knives that get along much better than this .

Well, that’s too bad.
Could it have left the factory with a wire edge that rolled on you?
Let us know how things turn out. A few things from Manly interest me.

Wire edge? Definitely not. It cut well and shaved arm hair easily. And was grabbing my thumbnail easily on both sides of the bevel.

Another devolopment. The blade is loose already. Easily fixed by tightening the screw I know. But I only carried it for 2 days. My overall at the moment is not good at all. I'm going to update as needed and will carry it for a week and see what/if any other issues pop up.

I have 3 samples of Manley's S90V as well as their D2 and they did an excellent job on both steels.
With a new knife I'll cut something as part of checking the knife out but then it will get sharpened before it's carried.
I'm thinking it's not the steel, give it a good sharpening and it will be good to go.

The knife should have been sharpened before posting a complaint online about edge retention.

I judged the edge the way it arrived. It was very good. So I didn't see a need to. I think I know what a good edge is. I sharpen most knives on arrival. UNLESS the edge is very good and since I paid the money for it I think I should be able to do that. And this is a forum isn't it? Im not looking to bash something for nothing. Just stating my opinion. I put an edge on it last night and am going to use it a few days and see. And if it holds up I will gladly say so. If it doesn't I will do the same.

Update. Put some good work in on the knife. So far so good. Cut some oak, and loads of poly pipe. Doesn't shave arm hair any more but that's to be expected. No flat spots or dull areas of the blade. If the temper was bad I would think that what I did today would reveal that. Just keeping it real. Edit: just stropped it on diamond spray on leather. It's cutting hair like it was yesterday.

The vendor replied to my email. They said it's possible the edge was overheated slightly and a secondary sharpening will last longer. They also offered me a replacement. But at this moment based on what I cut yesterday I don't think the knife temper has any issues. Maybe the absolute edge was overheated as he said. But I didn't remove much steel to get the edge back.

Very nice review -- I just ordered one in 12C27 for our upcoming walking tour in Scotland. Regarding the factory fresh edge, that sounds pretty typical, actually.

What Ed said ^ . Thisp happened to me on a CRK. For the price I think manly does a good job. I did not like the factory grind I got on my cpm154 peak. The bevel had deep uneven scratches here and there like if the knife was bouncing up and down on their jig. Its easy to fix though as their knives are nice and thin.

Sharpen it few times and maybe at little higher angle if edge rolls.Manly does good heat treat,i cant say on s90c,but i have their d2 and 12c27 knives and ht is superb, they cut for long time, have better ht than most major companies like benchmade and spyderco(depends on the steel :) )

I have heard good and bad about manly. I guess it depends who you ask. My first impression was very good. The edge issue though seems to be resolved as the second edge has plenty of work on it and is still cutting nicely. At this point I feel the steel is very good and the knife is worth having. I got a Benchmade proper recently. And am enjoying that although the wasp is a little bigger which I like better. Time will tell of course.
