Im new here, I intend to stay also since I'm a long time knife and edged tool collector. I do have a question. I was given a Mann KnotKlipper double bit axe. The head is 9&1/2" long 4&1/2 wide about 5lbs. It has a sharpened crescent on one bit 1/2" deep & 2" wide. I'm sure it was used to trim knots off logs I haven't seen one before. Any Ideas?

KnotKlipper was a top-of-the-line brand of normal axes from Mann. The sharpened crescent "cut out" on the bit could be an "aftermarket modification" resulting from damage, perhaps from hitting a knot?

I can sort of see something like that having been modified for use to de-bark branches (for rustic furniture etc) but only after the blade had been irreparably damaged to start with.
