Had to be pretty self-critical last week and admitted my own sheaths were pretty similar to Master-Shiv's. I'm no ninja master and can't get by on spirit points, so figured I'd have to settle for working harder and making better sheaths. Looked at some tutorials and settled down to try and improve my leather work. Spent a few hours tooling, smoothing, grooving, marking stitch holes, drilling, grooving, burnishing, welting, etc etc and was close to completion on an "almost" good looking sheath for a tyee-sized filet knife I built for a friend. Set it down on the bench for a second, turned around, and as the franco canadians say "There it was......gone!"
My faithful companion - logo dog - namesake - had a few scraps of leather in her mouth and was taunting me - prancing around with the remains of my work.
As a rule, no animals in the shop - when I'm working power tools, heat/spark, or chemical. Guess I'll have to add animal hides.
To keep it on topic, anyone else have the family pet destroy hours of hard work in a matter of seconds? I've heard of blacksmith cats spending hours in front of the forge - my old barn cat won't come near the shop - where do you guys keep your animals when you're working?
