I was looking for something a little different and came upon the Jyro which is very...different.

I know there's some bad blood between BF and Mantis' founder, but has anyone played with this thing in person yet? Or any other Mantis for that matter.

SharpPhil reviewed some of their stuff, no idea if the Jyro was among them. I think his overall judgement was that, in spite of the oft-reviled marketing and bizarre designs, they were decent blades for the money.

looks like an interesting knife, here is a video of it i found, i definitely want one...

i have one of the mantis kerambits, it was good for the price. jarrod west took a gamble with his unique designs, but i think it payed off. some of the newer mantis knives look real nice.

It's an interesting design, but I wouldn't trust anything the seller says about the knife, as he's been involved in schemes to defraud consumers before.

The blade steel may not even be what it's listed as.

For $160.00, I'd look elsewhere. But that's just my opinion.

Nope. It's my opinion as well.;) I suspect that only needs to have seen the "General's" posts here to arrive at that conclusion. Heck, for any price point, I'd look elsewhere.

can you explain? how did he try to rip people off ?

$160? Yowza! Yeah, I might be more than a little reluctant to chance that much money on it, given factors like the mystery steel and such.

Well, I understand, "we" don't like Mantis the company, but, what about the design? Any thoughts on it?

The "clip" thingy seems nice for putting the knife back on, but not too wonderful for taking it off. You have to pull away from you and then bring the knife up to you, which is pretty slow, I'd imagine. But getting the knife back to my pocket can be somewhat annoying in that on some of my knives I have to hold the pocket taut to get it to slide on well.

The ergonomics look great though, and the style of the thing somehow weirdly attracts me (but then, I do like weird looking knives like the Offset and Dodo).

My thoughts on its ergonomics are probably the opposite, now that I've went to their site and looked it up. Seems more like a concept design that puts style over usability. But if you like the look and have the money to spend, I'm sure you can put up with a little awkwardness in the hand (assuming I'm right about the looks of the handle).
