Hi guys. Newbie here. Sort of. I've collected knives for years, and I've read Blade Forums for quite a while. But I recently joined, and this is my first post. Anyway, I purchased a Mantis Chaos 2 fixed blade a few weeks ago, and kind of like it. It looks like their chaos folder, except in fixed blade format. Really unique look, that many hate but I love. No, I'm not a "mall ninja" as I also own a lot of Ontario, Kabar, Benchmade, Tops, Spyderco, etc. It's just that xxx had a one day sale, and I picked up the Mantis for $47. It normally sells for $70-$80, and the msrp is $120. So, yes, I know the company is held in contempt here, and for good reason. I won't defend them. I do like this particular knife. I think it's unique. Very sharp, and easy to hone. The little blocks of g10 make for a comfortable handle (to me). I have my doubts that the steel is really 154cm, since it's almost surely Taiwan/Chinese made. I suppose it's possible that Mantis sends the 154 out of country to be made at foreign company, but I doubt it. However, the steel seems of decent quality, very much like 440c. I actually batonned some (small) logs with it. Easily cuts paper. The sheath is barely adequate. Basic nylon. This knife should have been given kydex, since it could be used as edc. The coating on the blade does not come off easily. Anyway, please forgive my lame rambling review. Would I buy it again? Yes. But only at the price I paid. $70-$80 is ridiculous. Many would argue $47 is ridiculous. But I love the look of the knife. Many better knives, functionally, for the money. But this is truly unique.
