Review Mantis knife I like (ducking)

Hi guys. Newbie here. Sort of. I've collected knives for years, and I've read Blade Forums for quite a while. But I recently joined, and this is my first post. Anyway, I purchased a Mantis Chaos 2 fixed blade a few weeks ago, and kind of like it. It looks like their chaos folder, except in fixed blade format. Really unique look, that many hate but I love. No, I'm not a "mall ninja" as I also own a lot of Ontario, Kabar, Benchmade, Tops, Spyderco, etc. It's just that xxx had a one day sale, and I picked up the Mantis for $47. It normally sells for $70-$80, and the msrp is $120. So, yes, I know the company is held in contempt here, and for good reason. I won't defend them. I do like this particular knife. I think it's unique. Very sharp, and easy to hone. The little blocks of g10 make for a comfortable handle (to me). I have my doubts that the steel is really 154cm, since it's almost surely Taiwan/Chinese made. I suppose it's possible that Mantis sends the 154 out of country to be made at foreign company, but I doubt it. However, the steel seems of decent quality, very much like 440c. I actually batonned some (small) logs with it. Easily cuts paper. The sheath is barely adequate. Basic nylon. This knife should have been given kydex, since it could be used as edc. The coating on the blade does not come off easily. Anyway, please forgive my lame rambling review. Would I buy it again? Yes. But only at the price I paid. $70-$80 is ridiculous. Many would argue $47 is ridiculous. But I love the look of the knife. Many better knives, functionally, for the money. But this is truly unique.

If you're happy, it's all good, there is a specific review section, you might want to post it there (or ask to have it moved there), pictures are always appreciated in a review, since I couldn't (at a cursory search) find a folder than looked like the Chaos 2 Fixed (Which looks...unique). Also, welcome.

lol funny looking knife. tacticool?

if you like it, all good. I don't think it's something the majority us would get even at that discount.

Way too expensive in Canada (about $100US) but if you like it, good for you. Not my thing.

One of my favourite knives is a $40 CRKT, so wadda I know? ;)

Thanks guys. Yeah, the slots in the blade make sense to lighten it, but putting slots in the tang undoubtedly weakens it. Still, it's relatively thick, comparable to my sk5 blackbird in thickness.

I think that Anderson was asking, wouldn’t that spike he circled make the blade uncomfortable to use?

Here is the folder btw. (Featured on every ugly knives thread, but if OP likes it atleast someone does)

OP I think you should save up for the custom version. Only $1600

Is that thing even still available? I remember seeing it available (through consignment, I hope) at newgraham, but that was years ago.

Idk, I just found the picture in another thread.

Likely someone, somewhere, spent 1600 on that thing.

I wonder who designed these things.

The infamous Jared West. ;)
Probably. I think it was listed as a Jared West custom, not a Mantis custom. Of course, it could have been one of the Mantis employees, or a 14 year old with a pirated CAD program making Counter Strike skins. This one, at least, he didn't steal from a hardworking, legitimate knife maker or company, like he did with other knives he's pooped out.

For 32$. I would like the damaskus coin knife in black. 90% of that selection including your fixed blade is totally useless to me but I'm interested in many strange and different items so I respect your decision.

i luv the look of that knife!!! Manits is my favorite knife co. Id like two of these and a sholder rig that would be sick!!!
